Message: TOKYO - Toyota Motor Corp. said on Wednesday it is recalling 11,000 Lexus cars in Japan and 46,000 overseas to fix a faulty seat belt part.
Toyota will replace seat belts in both front seats, which can become jammed inside the holding due to a faulty part, it said.
The affected cars are Lexus GS and IS sedans.

Message: True, but when you recieve your car back, it's still a Lexus. (And it probably didn't take CBS to air a couple stories on them to decide to do a recall. aka, ball joints)

Message: In my opinion is takes balls to stand up and say you made a mistake, especially 57,ooo of them. I am sure that it takes a certain % of customer complaints to warrant a recall, but at least the car companies are more pressed to do something about it, so it seems.

Message: Matt, you are correct! Too bad DC doesn't have any balls. All DC would do is pass the buck!

Message: I actually think Toyota would recall as many vehicles necessary. I'n the mid 90's, I had a '94 Toyota Xtra cab 4x4 with the 3.0 V6 (what a dog that motor was! Whopping 150 HP from a V6. Kind of pathetic!). Anyways, those 3.0L in the trucks had a tendency to blow head gaskets as they had installed a bunch of defective head gaskets at the factory. I know Toyota voluntarily recalled an a$$load of trucks, T100's and 4Runners! I didn't even know about the recall, but my dealer actually informed me of it at my 30K servicing. By having the work done then, it saved me a bunch of $$$ on the 30K servicing as much of that work was covered with the head gasket recall. Pretty cool, and my service advisor didn't have to bring it to my attention, but he did, and I really admire that Toyota was so straight up about a problem they had with their vehicles. It must of cost them a fortune to replace all the head gaskets on the 3.0L V6 that was put into the trucks and 4Runners back then. It was a pretty popular optional engine back then as it was the only V6 available at that time. Toyota eventually started using the 3.4L V6 and it proved to be more powerful and not have any head gasket issues.
I must admit that DC has always performed any recalls I had with the Dak with no problems, but as stated in other posts, it takes a while sometimes before DC will 'admit' to any fault/problems/recalls that need attention.
Sorry for long winded post, just wanted to add my .02 cents!

Message: Uhhh.. Toyota did have a ball joint recall for the Tacoma, Jecht. For 768,379 trucks between 2001 and 2004 to be exact (mine was one of them).
One thing I am surprised they haven't done a recall on though is the dash rattle in the Tacomas that has been there since 2000. The bracket that holds in the airbag comes loose and rattles. They put in a "noise dampener" to fix it instead of actually fixing the problem... and they only do that if you have it under warranty. Kinda humorous in an irritating, not-funny way. :P

Message: Kind of ironic that someone would post about Lexus/Toyota recalling a bunch of vehicles trying to show that they have an inferior product, when it actually shows that the company cares enough about it's customers to repair and obvious defect in thier product.
Makes Dodge look bad (ball joint issue) and Lexus/Toyota look good.

Message: The Lexus owner don't have a "mechanic site" like this. People that own cars like that don't do their own work. And they don't try to get by on the cheap by writing for advice to sites like this. They take it to the shop and pay big BUCKS for repairs.

Message: Lexus owners have their own little forum. (google lexus forum) A lot of them do their own work, mods, etc.., and gripe about the HIGH dealer/parts cost.
