Subject: EGR Washer? IP: Logged
Message: How important is it to get right when installing the little metal ring that fits inside the EGR valve? The new valve came with a number of metal washer-like rings with stamped numbers on them. But my original didn't have a OEM stamp or any identification. Does it really matter?
If not:
I have codes for EGR system failure/EGR Solenoid Ciruit short 0r open. Replaced EGR solenoid and EGR valve and transducer. Can't figure this out. Still getting same codes. Help, I have had this code for a couple of years now and would love to get rid of it. First Gen. Dakota V6.

Message: wondering..., I live in California, home of the test only smog stations. I haven't had to go to a test only vacility. Last Feb. I got a smog check done for registation. As long as your read outs are under specification most mechanics will pass you even if you don't pass the 'functional' part. Frankly, this dakota always gets the question asked by the smog techs why its so clean. Apparently it must be a conservative engine being a V6, thats why its so clean.? (only a guess)
Also it helps to have a mechanic you really hit it off with, otherwise they are strictly doing their job and making money. Its hard to tell when my mechinic is being genuine or making a sale. Usually my mechanic will be genuine after you fork over 300+ bucks. Anyways, take care.
