Subject: Anyone with PIAA 510 fog lights IP: Logged
Message: I just purchased some PIAA 510 driving lights and the 97-03 Dakota mounting brackets, and either I got the wrong brackets or the '01 dakotas are much different. PIAA says to mount the 'L' bracket right underneath the metal bumpter, which will make the bracket angle downwards towards the ground. Well this is all great, except my fog light housing has a plastic housing that goes all the way around it, and back about four inches so there is no way for the bracket to hang down. Anyone with experience on this subject.
Thanks!

Message: Greg,
I went though the same thing as you a few months ago when I installed mine. You need to cut away the moulded stock fog light bracket from the bumper facia. I'd suggest a Dremel tool, with a heavy-duty cutting disc and a sanding drum to finish. Then it's alot of trying to fit the lights and recutting to get it right.
I also seem to recall that there was a small problem with the holes where the bracket mounts to the bumper. One of them (I think it was the hole on the truck, but I'm not sure) was a little small. So I drilled it out a bit so that the bolt could fit.

I appreciate the info...quality work by PIAA especially for $30 for 2 L brackets that I could have made myself! That's about as stupid as Dodge cutting the oil drainage hole incorrectly in their skid plates. Anyways, I'll give that a try.
Thanks again,

Message: I also made the mistake of buying the moutning brackets, thinking it would save me some time. Like you, I found them to be completly useless.
So I fabbed my own out of some scrap steel I had lying around. Took about an hour to make the first one, and about 10 min to make the second. Another 30 mintes to powdercoat. I didn't cut the factory fascia or mount bracket at all.

Do you have any pics of your brackets you made?

Message: No, I didn't take any pics. But it was just a simple plate of 3" steel. Holes in the top to attach to the factory mounts. And bent at about 60* or so to match the light mount. Really very simple. Just hold the light up in place and you can see how it goes.
