Subject: AC Relay? IP: Logged
Message: 96 3.9 4x4: The AC clutch does not engage when you turn on the switch. I checked the switch itself and it is fine. Is there a fuse or relay somewhere?

Message: There is a relay in the PDC. At least there was one my old 95.
It could be the cluth itself. Some people on here rebuild it. when it went out of my old 95, i replaced it with a compressor from a salvage yeard.
If you search on here, you'll find some instructions on how to do a jumper to test the clutch.

Message: Many things can cause this. Most common of that age is that you're low on refrigerant. Unplug the low-presure cutoff switch at the expansion valve block on the firewall, and jumper it with a paperclip. If the A/C turns on, you're low on freon (or, rarely, have a bad switch). Verify low pressure with a gauge.
Other things: bad relay, or open power wire to relay (which I have now - the infamous bad splice under the washer jug); bad clutch as suggested; bad/loose connection at electrical plug to compressor (which happened on my car once).
