Message: Someone told me that. Castrol, Mobile 1, etc. are normally SUB-companies of another one. Kind of like the fact that Kraft foods manufacturers a lot of brands of foods.

Message: Right. Mobil is part of EXXON now, but the formula is the same, except for improvments.
You might think of it like a Ford and Lincoln or a Caddy and Chevy being built by the same company and sharing the basic platform, but the details making them different.
Better, try this on for size. All gasoline is almost exactly the same formula when it is at the refinery and ready to be shipped. Basic chemistry, don't you know. What makes it whatever you buy because the advertising impressed you enough to think it is better, is added as it goes into the tanker. When a refinery is down for mantainance their stations get the same gas they got before, but from some other refinery.
However, Amsoil blends their own oils. Some of the components may be used by other manufacturers, but that doesn't make them the same.
