Message: Is it true that the one piece driveshaft on my 99 Dakota club cab has two different u-joints? One part number for the tranny end and another part number for the rear end? If so, who's the bonehead that came up with that idea? Anyway, your thoughts, opinions, suggestions, flames, bashings and insults are encouraged and welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Message: Hi, ScojoDak!
Absolutely true, I'm afraid! Actually, the reason I think Chrysler did that is because they changed to a different supplier or design for their driveshafts (Spicer) who used a different yoke size and type. However, they did not see fit to change the pinion yoke on the differential to match the new u-joint! Therefore, I think the front joint is a "Spicer 1310 series" all around and the rear joint is a combination of "Spicer 1310" and the older "Detroit 7290 series". Spot the difference? The Spicer joints all use "outside" snap rings and the Detroit joints all use "inside" snap rings...

Message: I found this out the hard way. After visiting a few places, I ended up in NAPA. The guy behind the counter had a clue, & got me the correct u-joints. Ones with the zerk fittings no less!
Don't recall the price, but worth it. My next venture, now I have 101,000 miles on the truck, is to do the front shaft - looks like that will be a project just getting the joints.

Message: Tony, can you repost with part #'s on all the front u-joints? I think there is 3 on the front shaft and i don't know if they are all the same. I have 96,000 on my 99, figure i might as well do mine too in a few thousand miles.

Message: Hey Dan it is good to know this so when you go to the parts store you are sure you get the correct parts. Its a pain in the a$$ when you need to go after getting wrong parts.

Message: I tried searching, cause I thought I posted it, but I don't have a username/password.
Once I get my wife's saturn working this week, I'm redoing the front joints.
