Message: Thanks for all the help to everyone on the board here, you all have been great either for knowledge and/or free entertainment (trolls).
I traded my Dak for a 05' Cooper S. Not for milelage, not for not using the truck to its full potential. I traded because I wanted something new that was not falling apart everytime I turned around. Dont get me wrong I loved my truck very much it was a 97 CC 5.2L, mods included new rt suspension, KN CAI, mopar perf comp, true dual exhaust, flowmaster 50 series, totally upgraded sound system, bf goodrich ta KDWS, OZ racing 18 wheels.
New vehicle is a blast to drive as well, just not as noisey and more reliable at least for now.

Message: the people who have all the problems with their Dakotas are the ones who mod the sh*t out of it. My guess is if you'd keep it stock, there wouldn't be as many complaints. When you replace OEM parts with something else, what do you expect. Each time you take something off that is working properly, you are screwing with the performance. Not yelling at you Aaron, just making a point. I know this from experience. I don't mod anymore and I've had very little problems.

Message: Also another thing to keep in mind, the 97 was the 1st edition of the generation. usually those have more issues.
I hope that mini is more reliable than a bmw. I work by a bmw dealer and see several flat beds hauling cars in for service every day.

Message: Then again, Dan, I guess if you can afford a Beamer, you can afford to have it repaired. ;)
Those Minis are neat, albeit pricey, "novelty" cars... even if their usefulness is limited. Heck, I wouldn't mind having one. Dealers are far and few between though. If you're nowhere near a dealer, good luck getting any mechanic outside that dealership to fix stuff on it.

Message: My 17 year old daughter wants a mini. So....I went to Wal Mart and bought her one. She didn't specify "the real thing" so how the hell was I supposed to know ;)
Yeah, like she would get one anyway. LOL!

Message: I went from a piece of crap Ford, which I will never own again, to my Dakota. That was the best decision I ever made as the Dakota has been the most trouble free vehicle I've owned.

Message: Everyone can have a problem with a vehilce more so than other people.
And then there are cars that ARE just beaters.
Dakota's overall seem to be a great truck. But everything has some problems.
Most of the problems I have had, were brought on by the rough way I drive the truck. Driver side power window, ball joints, etc and I off roaded it really hard for a while. Although the ball joints failing at 37k right after warranty kind of sucked. But it IS an easy truck to take apart and repair.
As for little cars like that. I'll never ever buy and drive one that small again. That is fackin' psycho with all the bigger vehicles on the road that would have a very good chance of killing you or your family if involved in an accident.
Nope. Nothing smaller than a Dakota for me. I may add some steel up front behind my grill. Even if it hurts a little MPG.
