Message: Id like to check my Dakotas computer for any stored codes,,just to see if I have any stored.
Can anyone tell me how to do it?
If so can you also tell me how I'd go about clearing them?

Message: Roll your key from off to on (don't crank it) three times rapidly. Leave it on the third time, and your odometer window will flash the code numbers that are stored. To clear them, reset the pcm by unhooking the battery, then holding the key to on for 15 sec. You will have to reset you radio and whatnot.

Message: That would be the correct procedure for pre 1998 models only, 1998 and newer models must have the OBDII scanner. the scanner is available at your local parts house for approx $150-200 and plugs into a connector below the steering console on the bottom of the dash.

Message: I have a 2000 Dakota and can use the ON/OFF (x3)method to get the error codes (I had 1 listed the last time I tried it about a month ago). As for clearing them, I haven't tried that yet.

Message: The procedure I outlined works just fine on my 2000 Dak. I have retrieved several codes that way before, and the reset procedure works on any vehicle with a computer. Automotive computers store codes in RAM, when the power is turned off, the codes are erased. Unless my truck is a one of a kind 2000 Dakota (Doubt it!!!)

Message: IN a 1999 year durango/dakota to read the codes. Put key in the off position then press and hold the trip reset button. And turn key to on Keep holding it until you see i think its CHECK on the odomiter. It will perform a test of all systems. The gauges will re calibrate and any troble codes will be displayed.

Message: Trevor, for some unknown reason the key trick does not work on '99's. It does work on my '00.
Have you tried this method? It's from a post on this thread.

Message: I'm no expert by any means but I believe the trip reset button/key on only displays error codes for the instrument panel - meaning just the gauges.
To see the PCM error codes for the check engine light you have to use the OBDII diagnostic scanner. In fact, it appears this was stated a few times above..
