Subject: The 9.25" Axle Lives! IP: Logged
Message: I have this habit of counting differential cover bolts on Dakotas and Durangos as I encounter them while driving and walking by, etc.
Well, last Saturday night I passed a 2005 (or 2006) Dakota QC and counted 12 cover bolts. (OK, I didn't count them, but one bolt in the center of the bottom edge = 8.25", one bolt in each corner = 9.25".) It appears some folks are lucky recipients of 9.25" inch axles. Pretty interesting since DCX doesn't offer that axle for selection when ordering. For what that's worth...

Message: I'm with you on that. If the day comes to move on from my Dakota it (can't say absolutely) won't be to a 2005+ Dakota. The day (in Dec '02) I saw the prototype at a DCX focus group I was shocked about what was coming and SO happy I had bought mine before the looks got wrecked.
Of course, styling cues are subjective - and most Gen III owners have no use for the Gen IV look. It's a great truck otherwise and lots of folks do like its looks, I am just not one of them.

Message: Ya know...I'm the same way.
I notice all kinds of stupic stuff, not just Dak's or Dodge, but most all makes. My buddies will ask me what vehicle just went past if they don't know...usually I know. Ohh well
Glad to see some axle under those big ugly turds :)
On a side note, my boss has an 04 Ram with 4.7. He constantly rides me about having a 'baby truck' but just gets confused when I tell him that his truck and mine share the exact same drivetrain. Moron...

Message: (Side note continued) Last month I was driving (my 4.7 Dakota) up the grade on I5 just north of Castaic, CA pulling my toy hauler that was loaded pretty heavy. I was blazing up the grade without any problem (3rd gear, 55-60MPH). I passed a 4.7 Ram QC pulling similar sized toy hauler that was going *very* slow...
How's that for a "baby truck"?

Message: And in 2006 you can get the 4.7 HO engine on a 4x2 SLT. In 2005 you had to get a 4x4 SLT or a Laramie. Still can't get 3.92 gears with the 6-speed manual. :-(

Message: My truck is pretty stripped, but luckily I got the 9.25 rear, even though it off center with the frame.
I have been enjoying looking at the Nissan Titan rear end, it looks so cute! Anyone know what size it is, I heard dana 33 but dont know what size that is.
