Message: How do you know exactly that your ball joints need replacing?
Reason I ask is a shop had my truck up in the air and showed me with a pry bar that there was a little play. I didn't see much but they said that it was enough to replace ball joints. Then there was a noise when he had forced the wheel to turn (not spin) and he thought this may be a bearing going out.
It was in the shop for an alignment check due to a tire that threw a belt. I am thinking he is trying to drum up business. I am planning on getting a second opinion prior to doing anything but thought maybe you all could help me and answer if I even need to spend the $30 to get the front end checked out.
Thanks

Message: If they are needing a prybar to move the wheel, I would think you'd be ok.
My bearings were grinding a little at almost 100K miles on a 97. Those bearing assemblies are about $100 for each side if you do it yourself, so it's worth spending $30 to get it checked out somewhere else.
