Subject: Over drive stopped working again. IP: Logged
Message: I posted about this before and I thought I had fixed it but it must have been a coincicdence cause it's back and the same thing didn't work this time.
It took almost 1 quart to put it in the middle of the "zone" on the stick. It usually isn't that low, that quick.
Sat. I put it up on ramps and checked things out. It looks like I had a leak coming from the front of the Pan, so I tightened all the bolts and only one of them was actually tight when I got there, so hopefully that will clear up my major leak. I also looked at the cable that is located directly above where the linkage is for the shifter and it seems to have too much play. I think that is the cable that is connected to the TB right? I'll have to look in my Haynes to see how to tighten it, or determine if it needs tightened.
I also pulled out a sensor that is near the rear seal on the driver's side, I was going to see if it looked dirty or the wires were freyed or something. It looked fine, and I didn't see anyway to clean it or anything so I just put it back. Does anyone know what that sensor is? It had a small square metal post sticking out that spins.
Does anyone know about checking the cable I mentioned?

Message: If your truck is shifting through the gears properly and to your satisfaction DON'T change that cable. It's pretty touchy as you will determine when you see how closely together the adjustment movements are. You can spend some time getting it right again. There is a procedure that suposedly sets it right but it never seems to be as I want it and needs to be played with.Just a posibility. Mine was working when it felt like it. I went to a wrecking yard and bought a brake switch for a buck. Solved my problem.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: Replacing the brake switch fixed the OD? Do you mean the switch on the pedal?

Message: Sorry. I retract that statement. I was super tired when I wrote it. That switch is your brake lights and cruise control release. Sorry guy.It was my cruise control that worked part time

Message: So nobody thinks it's the cable causing my OD problems? What was that sensor I pulled out?

Message: Ok here's the deal... the overdrive has 2 very important inputs... throttle position and vehicle speed... If your cruise control does not work, you can just about guess you have a bad vehicle speed sensor (also called distance sensor).. If you have access to a scan tool w/ data stream, you can also look for a incorrect vehicle speed. This may or may not set a DTC. The overdrive will not engage below 25mph. the throttle position sensor will also cause this same problem, but may not always set a DTC, sometimes the only way to catch a bad one is with a lab scope. The first step you will want to take is to backprobe the orng/dkblue wire coming out of the overdrive controller(left side of dash, same unit as overdrive swith) with a LOW AMP!!! test light to a hot wire. This wire goes to ground to activate the overdrive solonoid inside the transmission. Connect test light between this wire and a key-on hot wire. The test light should light shortly after the 2-3 shift, allowing the 3-4 shift. if test light lights, check for 12v+ at 3 wire vertical connector on transmission, I believe the middle wire should be hot, dark blue (pretty sure). once you have completed these test, post your results and we will diagnose further! do NOT touch the cable, that is your kickdown (throttle valve) adjustment, this adjusts how late or early your transmission will shift.
