Subject: 4.7 Replacement IP: Logged
Message: I plan on replacing my 3.9 slug with either a 4.7 or 5.2... I'm leaning towards the 4.7 for economy and I've driven a dakota with the 4.7 and I really liked it. More so it depends on which I find for the best deal but right now I have the 5spd in my '00 3.9 I'm pretty sure it's the NV3500 but I was wondering if either engine will mount up to it. Also are the mounts the same and is there anything else I would need for the swap? Thanks for any help.

Message: Great idea but I'd worry more about the
electronics and wiring for the switch over.
Good luck

Message: Might want to narrow your choice to 4.7 or 5.9; there's no '00 5.2 PCM for the Dak.

Message: I couldn't put in a '99 5.2? For the wiring on the 4.7 wouldn't I just need the PCM and harness? I'm probably over simplifying this but I'm just wondering what all I would need. I'm not going to do the install my self because I dont have any time to do it. I have to put in way too many hours at school in order to accomplish something like this.

Message: Well the NV3500 I bought came from a 3.9 that is said to bolt to the 4.7 I have for a project car.
You will need a different flywheel though.
I'm doing a similar project. Except I'm putting a 4.7 / MV3500 into something that never had fuel injection.
And 3000Lbs it should haul a$$!

Message: Hope you have lots of money, and it's not your evryday driver. You
would save more money just to buy a dak with a 4.7L

Message: Other year PCM's may not interface properly with the rest of your truck - it would be a crap shoot. Just trying to point you in the easier direction - good luck !

Message: You can use any year 5.2. You just need to get a PCM from the year that matches your truck. It can be from a Ram, Ram van, Durango, etc. It has to be the same year as your truck. The engine itself doesn't though.
The 5.2 would be a whole lot easier and probably cheaper than the 4.7 because it uses the same engine mounts as the 3.9. The transmission should bolt right up as well. Do a search on this site for 3.9 to 5.2 or something like that. There's been a whole lot of threads about this.
But like you said, you could all that money towards a supercharger or turbo and some internal work and you'd be quicker than most stock/lightly modded v8's.
