Subject: Synthetic Oil and a Mopar Filter IP: Logged
Message: I've got a free oil change from the dealer.
I have some Royal Purple Synthetic 5w-30 oil that they will put in...who makes the Mopar Oil filter for the 4.7 engine?
Should I go with the Mopar Oil Filter or invest in something better? Are there filters out there strickly made for synthetic oil or is that just another gimmic by the manufactures to get folks to buy a higer priced filter where something like a AC Delco filter would be fine?
Can you justify spending around $10 for a mobil-1 filter -vs- $3-5 for a AC Delco, or a free Mopar Filter?
Thanks

Message: If its free, go w/ mopar but be advised its a Fram painted black, no more no less.
Myself, I am going with Purolator Pure one after reading the study on oil filters.

Message: Diffrent companies make the mopar filters. In my area it is made buy allied signal (I think.) they are really good filters. They ARE WHITE AND SAY MOPAR on them in blue writing. There is an other version of a filter made by fram. JUNK. Small holes. Anti drain back valve leaks and is made out of cardboard.
But i would stay with the mopar filters.

Message: MAR, take a look at a Fram box. You will note that Fram IS Allied-Signal. So the Mopar filter you have that says Allied-Signal is just another Fram.

Message: One of the best synthetic oil filters on the market is the Amsoil synthetic oil filter. It filters down to 5 microns. Go to Amsoil.com for more information.

Message: i'm also running the k&n w/ mobil 1. no problems yet, except keeping from gettin hot oil on my arm, stickin' it up through the air dam. what a fine peice of engineering that is. i think next time i'm going to take that thing off to change the oil. it'd be alittle easier.
