Subject: V6 fuel trouble? IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I am in a hurry so I will try to explain as best as I can..
I have a 1992 Dodge Dakota 2WD with the 3.9 V6 and it's been acting really strange... When i try to start it, it acts as if its going to die down like its starving for fuel.. I changed the fuel pump and everything is good in the tank.. I also put in a new fuel filter and I'm still having the trouble...
One thing that is unusal is that there seems to be a loud hissing sound coming from the intake at times... The truck is unresponsive to my foot on the gas and after a while it will just quit acting up and start working fine.. any suggestions? if you need more detail I will be back on here later tonight... People have suggested the following to be a possible cause:
Bad TPS
Bad 02 sensor
PCM going bad
injectors???
Thanks,
-Jason

Message: its possible that there is a vacuum leak and getting more air then needed or the IAC Valve is bad and sticking shut... the sticking IAC Valve could be the noise your hearing the hissing sound as pulling air past it...

Message: Would that make it randomly go dead on me and rough idle at times? and when it's idling rough, it will go dead if I even touch the gas... something else that has me thinking its the PCM is the "OD OFF" light came on for no reason when I was driving.... I really need this problem fixed because its hard borrowing vehicles to get to work and school (only 18 years old and ya it sucks lol)
I didnt know there were two fuel filters so I will check the other one when I get a chance. Please give me some other things to check! Thanks SO much scott! This thing has me stumped!
Thanks,
-Jason

Message: Ok, I'm sorry to keep adding stuff but things keep coming to mind...
I didnt replace the fuel pump because I hooked the old one up to the battery and it spit fuel... But I did notice i dont hear the whining noise when I turn the key on... Strange??? But there is a CLICK that comes from the rear near the fuel tank... could the pump just be going back and NOT completly failing?? Thanks.
