Message: If you're looking to buy a brand new truck, you can get a price quote at www.4adodge.com. Remember that MSRP stands for Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, which no matter what those greasy, slimy weasels try to tell you includes a pretty decent profit... Which means you should talk them DOWN from that figure, not up from there with BS add-ons.
If you're looking to buy a used truck (any vehicle for that matter), go to www.kellybluebook.com to see the blue book value of a specific year/model truck - that should give you a general guideline at least of what the vehicle is 'worth'.

Message: Try Carpoint.com. You pick the options and it tells you dealer invoice

Message: For a new vehicle: Definitely go to www.edmunds.com. You need to figure out dealer cost (dealer invoice) and then how much over dealer cost you are willing to pay. Never negotiate from the sticker price down or you will be ripped off. If the dealer adds their own sticker, ignore it. It is ok to take a piece of paper and write down all the options from a vehicle sticker then go home and price out the vehicle. THen go argue with the wicked salespeople the next day. i pay no more than three hundred over dealer cost but you can pay less than this if you are a good negotiator. THey will do their best to make this sound unreasonable but after a few days of you leaving, they will probably give in. carpoint.com is also good as someone mentioned.

Message: I went to Edmunds.com to get an estimate on my perspective '98Sport Ext. cab and they were bang on with the banks price. Maybe the bank uses Edmunds.com too. I got mine for $2700 less than they said it was worth. The bank asked me, "how much do you want?"

Message: I know in Colorado, the NADA is a better approximation of what you should pay for a vehicle. Check them out too. Best way to avoid paying too much is to inform yourself and not buy at the first place you walk into.

Message: Yeah. I learned the hard way. Shop around. Go to a couple dealers and do some homework on the retail and trade-in prices on kbb.com.
I got totally reamed on my new Dak, and if it wasn't such an awesome truck, I would have driven it back in through that a$$hol dealer's f*cking front window.
Any-hoo
Best of luck ;-)
