what i thought to believe was a bad cat is no longer the problem. I removed the cat today and tried to drive and its doing the same thing as before. I can here a hising noise. next to the gas tank. I think its a vaccuum leak but not sure. Il be driving and when i hit the gas it just bogs down and doesnt go any faster what do you think the problem. IF it is a vaccuum leak where would it be.

Have you checked your gas cap? Seriously. Dodge is known for shoddy gas caps. It is amazing how many problems can be attributed to those caps too.

If you have the original cap still, you may just want to go spend the $8 or so at your local parts store to see if that could be the issue. Not sure if your fuel pump may be going; that is a bit more than I've gotten involved in. Someone else may have some other ideas.

bogging down sounds like timing, plug wires mixed up or egr valve. when you removed the cat was there a tube coming off it going towards front of truck if so that could be your hissing, that tube is part of emissions (egr tube)

ummm no its nothing to do with that you know when you turn the key you can here the fuel pump engage well now when i do that it makes a loud whining noise. And my truck only starts if i prime it manually by turning the key on and then off over and over. I was told it is most likely my fuel pump or my sending unit.

Give us some stats. Year? Miles? 4 Banger? 6 Cyl? 8 Cyl?
Your tank has to have presure to feed the system,we all know this. the hissing sound you discribe seems to make me think you have a line leak at the tank or a bad seal on the tank. Some pumps make noise. Mine does not. Goodluck

When gas is used air has to go into the tank and replace it. If a cap is bad or something else is plugged it won't let air in and the hissing you hear may actually be a sucking noise as the tank tries to draw air in. So it could be the gas cap - cheap thing!

Well, is it a hissing noise or a whining noise? They are totally different noises, weightset. In the first post you said a hissing noise; the six post you said it is a whining noise. A hissing noise would mean something to the point of your fuel system losing pressure when your truck is running (taking off the gas cap totally will also make it lose pressure). If it is a whining noise it could be your pump. So, start with the cheapest fixes and work your way up to the hundred dollar ones. I'd imagine that if the hissing noise (if it is indeed a hissing noise) is more prominent on the left side of the truck than the right side (at the tank), then it is quite possibly the cap.
