Subject: Intake ruin cat???
IP: Logged

Message:
Ok I installed an airaid intake on my 99 3.9 about 4 months ago. Now my cat went bad just got it replaced. I have heard that altering the amount of air going into your enginge can affect your cat. Have you heard this. Could my intake ruin the new cat? I kept the stock intatke so I can reinstall it if necessary.
Thanks for any info.

It's a coincedence. I have NEVER heard of that happening because of a C.A.I. install.

I've never heard of a CAI burning out a cat either. Quite possibly you have a sensor going out. Is it running rich? Do you have smoke coming out the tailpipe?

I have occaisionally seen white smoke coming out the tale pipe, but only when it is cold so I didn't think any thing of it. Before I put on the cai I had a check engine light, and it was the 02 censor after the cat. Should I have replaced both of them instead of just the one? No check engine light now though, so I don't think that either of the censors are bad right now.
Thanks for the input.

That sensor could of been messed up enough to cause damage to your cat. It could of been well on its way downhill by the time the sensor was replaced. I don't think you need to worry about replacing the other sensor unless you start noticing problems. How many miles do you have on the truck?
