you dont have to take the windows out. When you go below the door line you have to use the little squeege to push the film down, then you can work to the top. only do the final trim after you get all the bubbles out. I trimmed the top of the trim about an 8th of an inch below the top of the window, you cant see the edge when the window is up.
Good luck, it is a tricky job, but if you think it through before you start, it really isnt hard. Be patient with it or it will mess with your head.

My advise is to have them tinted professionaly. Seriously, it's worth the coin! It will cost a little more, but you will be happy to pay to have the job done right. Plus you wil get a warranty for any defects, bubbling, etc., Also you will get paperwork showing that it is a legal 'tint percentage' for whatever state you live in. Police cannot site you for too dark a tint if you have the paperwork stating that it is legal. Plus it will just look better and last longer if you have it done professionaly. I used a local dealer that specialized in a brand called 'Formula One' and it has been trouble free on my Dak for over three years. I don't know how well of a brand that is, but it seems to work well, and have had the wifes Camry done with the same product, only lighter as you can go with a darker tint on trucks, SUV's and vans in Oregon. I did get her sunroof almost completely blacked out....dark as possible. It's been on her car for over two years, and is not even bubling around the defroster on the back window.
Another great thing is that I launched a rock through my Dak's back window last summer while mowing yard, and due to the fact I had paperwork for a professional tint on my Dak's window the insurance company paid to have it re tinted after new window was installed.
Call some places in your area and get some estimates. You may be surprised at how reasonable it is to have it professionally done and have a legal warranty also. Trying to do it yourself and get all the bubbles out can drive you nuts! Just my .02 cents and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Get the right tools. You'll need the squeegies and the scraper to get the bubbles out.

And yes, you do not need to take the window out.

And the cops have to prove it's illegal before writing a ticket. They do have machines for testing the test. Also, be sure to look at the law carefully. Here in GA it's 32% +/- 3% .. so I can get 30% tint and still be legal. also, in GA the law does not apply to factory installed tint. So if you moved here from another state and your vehicle came with factory tint of 20%, there isn't jack they can do about it.
