Subject: Rattling/Grinding noise... IP: Logged
Message: Since I bought the truck about almost two years ago (1997 Dakota CC 5.2L 4x4), there's been this rattling/grinding noise, almost like the sound of a chain. It only occurs under medium acceleration. If you accelerate really easily, you don't get the noise, same if you floor it. But pressing the gas enough to where it shifts at around 3k, I always hear this rattling noise, like something is loose. It's been there since I bought the truck, so I don't know if anything is actually wrong with it. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

Message: Differrent driving and acceleration produce different harmonics that can affect parts producing vibration. What may not shake at low or high sppeds may shake, rattle, and roll at inbetween speeds. I heard a ringing at certain speeds on my chevy truck and couldn't find it. When I took it in it turned out to be a front end componant that was coming loose and the threads on the bolts had become worn from the rubbing. Could be something is loose underneath on your truck. Check everything for any loose nuts and look for rubbing spots.
