You drop the pan just to see how it looks?
Trevor L,
Re; regular oil changes. Nothing wrong with the 'out with the bad, in with the new' philosophy, Amsoil users do it too, just not as often.
A thought; this site is full of people who think the manufacturers engineers work can be improved on....so why insist on using obsolete 3,000 mile oil changes? The factory engineers design vehicles to run longer between oil changes.
Chris G,
I love ya, buddy. You bring up points worthy of thoughtful response. I wonder from this last one if you are stirring the pot, or are you a socialist expecting someone else to give you oil?

May I suggest from the menu, our finest vintage, Series 2000 motor oil, with a side of the very special eA oil filter. You'll find it specificly designed for the synthetic oil.
Your Dakota will, I am quite sure, think it a scrumptious repast.

Okay, Let me clarify things a bit.
The 25,000 mile / 1 year oil change recommendation that is on the back of all Amsoil bottles is "NOT" an absolute! One must realize that is for "non-severe service" (highway miles where you have stable operating conditions) and that the indicated drain interval also has a time period of 1 year maximum as well.
RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE SERVICE INTERVALS:
25k miles = normal (mostly highway miles)
15k miles = severe (a combination of city and highway driving, stop and go traffic, towing, racing, off-roading, etc.)
Amsoil 25k Mile Extended Oil Drain Interval
AMSOIL has been in the oil industry for 35 years. Due to Amsoil's superior synthetic composition and advanced performance additives, AMSOIL performs much longer than do conventional petroleum and other synthetic motor oils.
However, the "mention" of a 25,000 mile /1 year "possible" oil change interval that is on the back of the bottle is NOT an absolute!
REPEAT ... "NOT" an absolute!
One must realize that is for non-severe service (highway miles where you have stable operating conditions) and that the indicated drain interval also has a time period of 1 year maximum as well.
***** READ THIS PLEASE EVERYONE *****
Under a combination of city and highway circumstances, AMSOIL recommends ... taa daa ... up to 2 to 3 times longer drain intervals than recommended by the manufacturer.
REPEAT: Up to 2 to 3 times longer drain intervals than recommended by the manufacturer.
If your owners manual states 5k mile oil changes, then 12-15k mile oil changes would be alright based on driving habits. The harder you drive, the sooner you change the oil). Proper filtration is also very important. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are also rated for 25k miles or one year (whichever comes first).
Notice: Modifications to engine will change service intervals.
Notice: More frequent service may be required under
severe service operating conditions.
Notice: For drain interval beyond 3x manufacturers
recommendations(especially the 25k mile change)
oil analysis is recommended for establishing drain intervals.
AMSOIL = 35 years of manufacturing oil and mountains of data and tests to make these claims possible.
__________________________________________________
I try to be very clear when talking about extended drains. 10-15k mile oil change intervals are absolutely possible, and up to a 25,000 mile interval is possible under certain conditions.
The KEY POINT is that --- The 3,000 mile oil change (heavily promoted by BIG OIL and the Quickie Lubes) is a MYTH and is overkill, especially with superior synthetic oils.
__________________
THE BOTTOM LINE - Under a combination of city and highway driving ... AMSOIL recommends up to 2 to 3 times longer oil change intervals, which means up to 2 to 3 times the equipment manufacturer's recommendation.
AMSOIL has 30+ years of manufacturing experience and mountains of data and tests to make these claims possible.

Then why advertise it. I'm not bashing the product, but it you have to change the oil filter at 12,000 miles & add a quart then just change the oil. You're taking the same amount of time.

It's really simple.
It's like the mileage sticker on your window.
You might get close to the HWY mileage under optimal conditions, but under normal driving conditions you will get closer to the city mileage.
Nothing wrong with stating optimal and expected.
