Subject: toolboxes? IP: Logged
Message: Hi all I just got my 2004 Dodge Dakota 4.7 awd 4x4 quadcab and I was wondering if there are any options out there as far as narrower small chestboxes/toolboxes/other storage options that wont take up my already small truckbed. There has to be something out there for my little bed isnt there? I dont need much space just enough for my small tools and maybe a few quarts of oil and stuff thanks.

Message: Like a cross bed box ? Some are specially sized for the Dak; but one from a mini truck will still stradle the rails but be smaller.

Message: There are boxes you can get that sit below the top of the bed and between the wheel and tail gate. several configurations depending on vendor. 1 had 4 or 5 drawers (can't remember) and opens from the tail gate side. On has a single compartment and opens from the top. Another one has 2 or 3 shelves (can't remember) and opens from the side.
there's also pork chop boxes (duh! because of the shape) that fit partially over the wheel well.
i wanted more space so i opted for a UWS wedge which is a larger box, but allows me to carry my rolling jack and other goodies.
Several companies also offer custom build options.
I have an 02 QC 4x4.

Message: J.C. Whitney has one in their catalog that fits along the side of the bed rails behind the wheel well and has drawers that pull out. that might fit your bill.

Message: If you are looking at tool boxes that fit totally inside the bed of
the truck, and you do not need the drawers etc, try Wally World,
or a generic auto supply store like Pep Boys. You may find
something that will work, for fewer bucks than other places. Just
a thought.
Let us know what you decide to do.

Message: If there's a TSC (tractor supply company) or northern tool near you, look there. Both had alot of boxes in stock to choose from including the kind I described that sit over and behind the wheel well.
