Subject: Bad place for a flat!!!

Message:
So we had a fair amount of snow in the mountains here in Southern Oregon the other day, so after I got off work yesterday I surprised the family and drove us up a local area so the kids (3 and 5 yrs old) could play in the snow. I was abusing my truck pretty good, spinning cookies, getting sideways whenever safe to do so, etc (you know 'playing in the snow!). I did notice that the truck was not handling and responding as well as usual, but didn't think much of it. I finally found a good area with about 6 inches of snow (way the heck up in the hills, nobody else up there). We played there for a couple of hours when I noticed that my right rear wheel seemed to be buried in the snow deeper then any of the other wheels. I gave it a kick and it was flat. Plus it was getting dark! Wonderful!
So I had to change it in the snow (and the jack location in my QC is in such a convienient location when you have childs seats installed in back seat!). Luckily had a shovel (never go 'wheelin without one!) so was able to dig out most of the snow under back of truck so I could get under there to get jack under rear axle. Got the job done just as the sun set, so didn't have to break out my power inverter and spotlight.
It could have been worse, at least my spare was good, and the wife was with me to keep the kids out of my hair and warm inside the truck so they were not slowing me down.
All in all, I would say it was a pretty interesting adventure! Just thought I'd share my experience! Guess I will be going to Les Schwabs after work today for a free flat repair! Looks like a big staple or something was the culprit. Thanks for listening to me rant!

I just purchased an 02 QC 4x4. The storage space is very lacking. I purchased a UWS toolbox for the bed. I keep my rolling floor jack in it. Much better than those factory jacks.

I had a flat once in my parents old GMC full size van. My truck would not start and I borrowed it to go to school and work. On my way home I got flat. rumaged around in the van and could not find a flashlight. I had to change the tire under the moonlight. It was summer but also happened on a rural road at midnight with noone around. As I was getting ready to lower the van down, someone happened to be driving by and stopped to assist. Go figure!

Well, after taking my truck into Les Schwabs for a flat repair, I discovered I had pretty much destroyed the sidewall so it was not repairable. Guess it had been flat for a while when up in the snow, but was hard to tell driving around in the snow in 4wd! Didn't make much since to replace just one tire(they had about 40K on them), so I got new tires all the way around. I was going to put new tires on it next fall anyways.
I must admit that I'm impressed with my Dak, as it still 'wheeled around pretty good with a flat rear tire! I think that kind of flat would have stopped my last truck cold ('94 Toyota xtracab 4x4 V6 with pegleg). Dakota trucks rock!!!
