I just bought a lifted 92 4x4 5.2 dakota and i had the numbers ran on my rebuilt trans...they said it was a 46RH. I didnt think they put that trans in dakotas in 92. I thought they were just the 42RH. Anyone else got one?

is the 44re a 904 torqueflite with electronic O/D? is the 46re or 46rh a 727 torqueflite with electronic Over/Drive? if not than let me know what it is.

Basically, that's true. The A500 through 44RE are various incarnations of the original 904. The 518/46,47, and 48 are derived from the 727. However, there were many changes once the OD was added, and you cannot simply bolt an OD onto the earlier 3-speeds. However, nearly all the early 3-speed tranny parts (input shafts, drums, clutches, seals) will swap with the same parts in the "front three" of the OD models.

actually, sts, your a dumbazz. the hydraulically controlled trannys were way more reliable than anything they have come out with since. for some reason when they went electronic, all sorts of problems happened. they werent nearly as good for racing purposes, in stock form, but you could tow all day long with it.
