Subject: heater fan fusable link IP: Logged
Message: '92 Dak. Although I've replaced the fan motor, the 50 amp fusable link keeps blowing. The resistor block is intact although one lead looks like it's suffered from some heat, it measures less than an ohm across it. I've been told that the dashboard switch module should be replaced but at $200 (!), I'm wondering if;a) I can clean the switch or, b) look elsewhere for the problem. Thanks a lot, Larry

Message: If a 12V line is running 48A, there is approximately 0.25 ohms of impedance between ground and the 12V supply. Less than an ohm isn't suprising. Often the switches can be cleaned by that isn't usually the cause of shorting.
Under what conditions does the link blow? (immediately? when the fan is on a high setting? Intermittantly?)
