Subject: Parking my dak IP: Logged
Message: I am thinking of parking my dak for awhile. What I want to do is park it, buy a BMW 330i and build a big motor for it. Of course the tranny and everything will be upgraded to compliment the motor. What steps would I take if I did have to park it?

Message: I'm a big fan of backing in. Pull ahead of the space and turn away from it. Then put the truck in reverse. Back in, steering so that your Dakota is centered in the lines...good luck!

Message: Yeah, sorry I guess I should have asked what I meant. I am looking into storing my dak and buying a beamer (BMW) I want to remove the 318 and build a bigger and better motor. Maybe one day race the truck. What steps should I take to Store it?

Message: Some things you may want to consider:
Switching the oil to a Synthetic grade. They degrade a lot slower than conventional oils and won't sludge if you leave them in there for a while.
Be sure you put some sort of fuel stabilizer in the gas tank if you plan on parking it for a while.
It is also a good idea to take the wheels off (put it on jackstands). Last thing you need is a tire going out of air and messing up the tire and rim.
If you can afford it, lock it up in a dry storage unit. If you're going to be storing it outside, get some heavy duty moving blankets from U-haul or Ryder and put them over the top of your truck (hood, cab, bedrails, etc) and then cover the whole thing with a tarp. The blankets will help against hail damage if you live in a hail prone area.
Hope this helps.

Message: I would also remove the battery unless you plan to start it at least once a month. There is juice being drawen from the battery by all cars now days 24/7. Last thing you want is a frozen busted battery with acid ruining everything it touches.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: Thanks guys! I am looking to do build a great motor. Drop in a newer better tranny. Aluminum heads, cam, roller lifters, bore the cylinder, headers and all that great performance stuff! I want no less than 400 horsepower being produced! Can't wait! It will be about 6 months till I do STORE it!
