Message: its the core. do not buy. it cost alot to replace it. you have to take the dash out. leave the truck there and look for another. let them know the core is bad and need to replace it. sure they will say its not the core. but look over at the recall section with the post heater core puked.

Message: well if you have dodge do it. the core will be over $300 and another prob $500 to $600 for labor beings the whole dash has to be yanked out. calls for 8 hours of labor. I got my sisters changed out with a auto zone replacemnet that cost like $30. so total it was like $300 to get it replaced at a local garage.

Message: its not that expensive to replace the part itself is around $150 i believe.. a feew months ago i had my AC evaporator... (same location) and my mechanic had to remove the entire dash board, steering column... but i took the part to him and i paid around $350 for labor so its not too bad.. but it is still kind of expensive

Message: It's doable yourself. I replaced mine in my 95. It wasn't hard, just tedious.
If you do decide to do it, go ahead and replace both heater core and evaporator core since you'll be in there and have to drain the coolant and evac the a/c
at 144k, I'd ask if the timing chain has been replaced yet.

Message: If everything else is in good condition that truck is definately worth the $3000 if with that many miles, and a bad heater core.

Message: The heater core isn't expensive. I have a '98 dakota, and the heater core cost me $20 at Auto zone. It's just a pain to replace it.
