Subject: Rattling exhaust IP: Logged
Message: A few days ago my exhause started rattling. I looked underneath, but I can't see where it is hitting any thing. I have also recentlly noticed a drop in MPG. This sounds like my cat is going bad. Any thoughts / opinions. Also any idea about how much a new cat will cost. And does the cat have to be welded on or can I just use clamps. I would like to be able to replace it my self, but I don't have a welder.

Message: Sure sounds like the cat ok. Mine is a 99 4x4 5.2 L . Got mine at the local muffler shop . 145 bucks welded on . I prefer that to leaky clamps . You never mentioned year or millage. You should have 80,000 or 100,000 not sur which for free replacement at dealer.

Message: sorry forgot about the details 99 3.9 4x2
I've been looking online, and i can get a factory replacement from advanced auto for $94 with clamps
or a universal with clamps for $62. The only reason that I want clamps is because I can't afford to have a garage do it, and I don't own a welder.

Message: I agree with the free replacement. Got a letter from dodge that said if your cat rattles it can be bad and be replaced within 100,000 miles for free at the Dodge dealer.

Message: Well Dodge says that my warrenty ran out on this last january. Looks like I'm doing it in my drive way this wekend. But it turns out that I have open recalls on my seat belt retractor, and something to do with my rear brake hose. Any body have any idea what the deal is with the brake hose recall?
Thanks for the help.

Message: the whole thing with the brake hose is that it was too long and rubbing on the axle and making a hole. Never heard about the seat belt retractor thing though. I went in for my free cat convertor just before 80,000 miles and asked the service manager if there were any open recalls on my truck and there weren't but the brake hose thing came up but had been taken care of by the previous owner.
