Subject: Best Passing Power Mod & Intake Boring
IP: Logged

Message:
Alright I have two questions... I have a 2003 3.9L
1) What is the cheapest mod that will give me the best passing power?
2) I installed a V8 TB but I need to get my intake manifold ports matched, so how much will it cost, how long will my truck be out of service, and will I actually feel the power gains?
Thanks in advance!!!

if you dont already have a Cold Air Intake than that is a must. with that combo of the ported TB & manifold the intake will really help. if you make it yourself it is really cheap and will be noticed right away. get rid of the 3rd cat helps to and is also cheap to do but will have to go back on when you smog it.

you should just match them your self. take of the manifold and port them to the need amount and when the manifold is off you can port the runners a little to. never done it but would guess close to sun up to sun down so about 8-12 hours. with a break in between.

let us know how it all goes together and runs.

Hey, guys!

When I installed my Hughes billet plenum plate, I realized why my 52 mm Holley didn't provide any noticeable gain before: the intake bores were wayy too small! Tried to port them myself with a Dremel, but all I created was frustration and a lot of fine aluminum dust. Gave up and had a local machine shop do it instead! If I had air tools (e.g. real grinder), I would have succeeded. For a complete cleaning of insides and surfaces, plus the porting of the throttle bores (I did not touch the actual runners for now), the total came to about $90.00. Worth it, I think!

Check with the machine shop beforehand, and you'll probably lose only a day or three's use of your truck. I worked only evenings, so it took me a little longer; plus I also had a rattling water pump to deal with :-)

I second the cold-air intake toolfan recommended with these mods, I've had either an Edelbrock Pro-Flo 1000 (triangular foam deal) and now a 360 Air Intakez kit: And there is definitely a butt-dyno difference when you do these mods together!

360 Air Intakez, 52 MM Holley Billet, Ported, Hughes Plenum Plate, Perma Cool Fan, Jacobs Pro Street, Moroso Ultra 40, Bosch 4, Superchips, TPS, CPS, IAT Mods, Dynomax Ultra Flo, Transgo, SLT Trim, Diamond Heads & Corners, Clear Tails, Hood Pins, APC White Gauge, PML Polished Trans & Diff Covers
