Message: Hi everyone! I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota, with an automatic transmission. About two months ago, I got a transmission trouble code saying 'overdrive band failed off'. The transmission works fine; I have no problems with it. I erased the code, and without even driving the vehicle, within thirty seconds the trouble code comes back. I erased the computer a few times, and it still brings the trouble code back within thrity seconds after I start the vehicle. The transmission works fine! Can anyone give me any tips on what I could do to stop the light from coming on? Something keeps setting the light off. Again, the transmission works fine!

Message: Mine seemed to work fine too when my check engine light came on. But it was worn out and had to be rebuilt. Have you checked the fluid lately? What color is it? does it smell burnt or look varnished?

Message: No smell to fluid, looks the same as the day I got the truck, 5 years ago. The guy who asked about trans info. It is a 2000 dakota with a 3.9lt and it is a 4x4. I dont know the exact auto trans model that is in it. But I think the 4x4 3.9lt used the same one. Any way the code # is p1762 Auto zone gave me a print out saying overdrive band failed off. The trans works fine, I drive it every day. But code wont stay erased. Need to get light off and stay off. Looking for more comments on this. And why would I want to put a trans in if it is working fine!

You're 100% correct, jeo! Plus you'll play hell
to find ANYONE that will EVER do you a good job
rebuilding it if you go that far with it.

Message: SYMPTOM
P1762-GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR OFFSET VOLTS TOO LOW OR HIGH
WHEN MONITORED
Continuously with the key ON and the engine running.
SET CONDITION
This code will set if the governor pressure is out of range in park or neutral for 1.3 seconds for three consecutive bad 3.0 second tests and sump temperature > 10 °C (50 °F) and <
127 °C (260 °F) are required to set the code.
POSSIBLE CAUSES

Message: is P1762 the only code getting set off?
Sometimes when the oxygen sensor goes bad, it disrupts the ground path and sometimes sets governor sensor codes such as P1762-P1764

Message: Yes that is the only code (P1762) that is being set off. What would tell me that it is the oxygen sensor, If there was more than one code? Can the oxygen sensor be bad with just the one code being set off. What has your experience been with this? Thanks.

It is storing a p1762 governor pressure sensor offset code. Aamco quoted $450. I used to wrench for Oldsmobile and am willing to try as i have been out of work 19 months now. No tainted or burnt fluid as I have not driven it much.Any help would be appreciated ie .manual or website advice , hopefully with pics and sensor location

Message: 05 Dakota was showing "Trans. Fluid Temperature" warning light came on a couple of times. Took it in for tranti fluid/filter change. Garage guys came back and said tranti was going bad and gave me these codes, pO841,pO700,pO218. What do these mean. Can I drive truck safely? Whats gonna happen if I'm driving when it goes?
