On a 4X4 I always had decent tire life rotating them every three or four thousand miles. If you have a manual remember to follow the swapping pattern as suggested.

I rotate my fronts to the rear when the backs get too bald to drive on from doing too many smoke-shows. Then I get a new pair to go on the front... (just did a rotation on friday)
