hi everyone
i bought a uses truck a couple months ago and i'm not quite sure what gears it has. the label in the glove box says 3.55 but i feels more like 3.92 (power and mpg wise). how could i find out?
what engine speed does it have with what gears at like 50 mph or so?
its a 98 3.9 v6 reg. cab with 235/70/R15 tires.

manual or auto? it will be different.
my '00 5spd manual w/ 3.55's and 235-75-15 tires turns about 1500 @ 45mph something like 2200 @ 70mph.

crawl under the back of your truck and read the little tag that should be on one of the bolts holding the cover onto the differential. it will tell you. or if the original owner saved the window sticker, that will also tell you.

If you think the gears have been changed, Do the following - Scribe a mark on the driveshaft & one on an axle. See how many times the driveshaft turns with one revolution of the axle. Is it closer to 3.5 or 4.0 ?

it's an auto.
i will crawl under it this weekend and have a look.
im turning about 2500 at 80 mph with od on. could that be a hint?
