 Subject: 2002 Dakota Autotap problem

I've got a check engine light on my '02 Dakota 4.7L. I have an Autotap OBD-II diagnostic scan tool, but I can't seem to get it to communicate very well with this truck's computer. Has anyone else had this problem?

Completely unneccesary for Dodge's.
Do this: Ignition on (don't start), ign off, on, off, on and leave it on. Any codes will be displayed in the odometer as pXXXX.
Look up the codes and fix the problem.
