Subject: Cooling System Capacity IP: Logged
Message: What is the cooling system capacity of a 2000 4.7L Dodge Dakota? My service manual says 13 quarts but the book that came with my truck says 17 quarts. Is the 13 quarts just the engine and radiator and the 17 quarts include the overflow tank?

Message: If you get pre-mixed, I'd imagine it is roughly 4 to 5 gallons depending on how vigorously you flush the system; otherwise, with the unmixed coolant, you can probably just buy 2 to 3 gallons, mix it with distilled water (50/50), and start flushing your cooling system. If you have an half gallon or so left over, then it never hurts having extra for emergencies.
