Right Bubba. I'm 45 years old. I've probably owned and worked on more vehicles than you have in your short little whiny life. You sound like the kind of guy that got the piss slapped out of him by his daddy for talking back.
I've owned my Dak for 5 years now. Like I said, not one major problems besides typical wear. Preventive maintenance is a wonderful thing. You ever hear of it? Sorry, but when I hear a thunking or squeeking noise, I check it out. You obviously don't by what you posted, then you b.i.t.c.h when something goes wrong. That's your fault and not the fault of the engineers or manufacturer. I don't know if you have kids, but my guess is if you do and your kid got a fever your reply would be "well, all kids get fevers so I don't have to worry about it." Let's just hope you don't reproduce if you haven't already.
Good, glad to hear you don't own a dodge anymore. Less whining the dealer has to hear from you for not taking care of your vehicle. Have a great life!
And for the Zach imposter above...grow up. He already shot himself in the foot and doesn't need any troll help.

Message: You are very correct Zach. Very poor quality. Here are some of my findings:
1. After filling up the gas tank, I had to fill up AGAIN after driving about 280 miles. You'd think they could keep that tank full for me so I wouldn't have to get out of the truck and pump more gas.
2. I pushed one of the radio buttons and the station was playing rap music. They know I hate rap music so why did they put a button on the radio that would get rap music.
3. I have 35,000 miles on my truck and the oil turned to fudgy gooky sludge. Why don't they tell you that it doesn't last forever?
4. I wanted to load some plywood in the bed and I had to pull up on the handle and open the freakin tailgate by myself. Why doesn't it open when I ask it to. My hands were full!
5. The carpet and seats get dirty. Why? I cant figure it out.
6. I slammed my foot on the brake pedal like they do in the Dukes of Hazard. My truck didn't skid much but it almost put me through the windshield. Why don't they make the brakes spongey so I can slide like the movie stars do?
I hear ya Zach. Piss poor quality.

Message: i am 39 and i have owned many vehicles other than dodges. and yes i have blown transmissions and engines before.i have torn apart front ends and you know why? because I beat the crap out of the car.
Ex.#1 77 Olds- thought i could do neutral drops until what happend- the trans dropped.
Ex. #2- 79 mustang- thought i was Luke Duke and took it over railroad tracks at 60mph- posted speed 20mph-what happend- while i was turning up my street lost upper ball joint.air time not good for car
Ex.#3- 2nd 79 2.3l turbo mustang- blew up engine- why?- too many high revs.
Ex.#4- same car in #3- blew turbo 2 months after engine rebuilt- why?- still didn't know how to keep revs below 4k.
Ex.#5-82 buick regal- dropped trans- why?- just wanted to see if i could do it w/ another car.(ha ha).
Ex. #6- 82 trans am- after taking it to the track and running it into the mid 13's @108.5mph broke trans mount.
Ex.#7- 82 trans am- broke 4:10 gears- she couldn't take foot anymore (replaced w/3:23's)
Ex.#8- 85 silverado- engine cought on fire- why?- should have replaced rubber fuel hose that went to carb- if i did would have not cought on fire.
What's my point- I have had many problems with cars but I have not complained about it because most of the time it was my fault.I just took it in stride repaired my mistake and moved on.Most problems happen when you mistreat your vehicle.all but the last(#8) happend between the ages of 18-30.maybe i have learned something in the last 10yrs!!!!!!!!

Message: The bottom line is, buy what your happy with. If you made up your mind that you wanted a Dakota, you should have test drove all Dakota competitors. A simple test drive will tell you that it was smaller than what you wanted.
Second, check unbiased sources for info on quality. There are publications that will tell you how many problems per set number of vehicles, over a specified time frame. You can also check recalls, complaints, etc...
The reason for this is because for every horror story, there will always be someone who chimes in with "I ran my truck without oil for 20k miles and it still runs like a top..."
Make an educated decision.

Message: Thank you Mr. Obvious.
There is one problem with your theory. When someone such as Zach lacks the intelligence to make an educated decision, your theory can't be used.
Zach already said he knew the problems associated with Dakotas from his YEARS as a mechanic, but it was such a good deal, he couldn't pass it up. That tells me he can't make an educated decision. Do you want to spend less money and get something you already know you will hate, based on what you know about the vehicle or pay more and get something you know you will be satisfied with. If there were so many problems with the Dakotas, he shouldn't have bought it no matter how good of a deal it was.
I don't like Pontiac Grand Ams. My friend has a Pontiac dealership and I've seen how many are in the garage being repaired at one time. I don't care what kind of deal someone will give me on them; I won't buy one. That is an informed, educated decision. If you know you are allergic to peanuts but eat some anyway because you are hungry, that is not an educated decision. Zach falls into that category.

Message: I love Chrysler products, I love my Dakota, I purchased it brand new and here goes:
1. Wiper motor dumped - RECALL (1k miles)
2. Window switch panels fell out (clips broken @ 2k miles)
3. Passenger floor fills up with water up to 5in at times (4k miles) - Factory cut the ac drain tube short - dumped all condensate into cab :(.
4. CD Player makes wierd ticking noise after truck is shut off. They replace one now the new one does the same thing. (6k miles)
5. I see on National television Dakota wheel assemblies flying off - Take mine in - Hairline fractures in both upper ball joints - RECALL (10 k miles) Maybe saved my life.
6. Overdrive wire broke on column - (15k miles) The wire was too short from the factory.
7. Front end makes clunking noise on sharp right or left hand turns??????????????? Been happening since I got it - I guess ball joints but no one knows.
Dealer in Western New York was great! Nothing but good things to say there. Dealer in Richmond VA (Pence Dodge) - Most incompetent folks I have ever met (and they are a 5 star dealer - BS). If I had to do it again I would get a Tacoma. More of a Tacoma is made in USA than my current Dakota and maybe I would have had better luck. I do not know. I plan to keep my Dakota until it is dead so the trial continues. Hope you all have better luck with your trucks than I have had.

Message: LMAO at statistics too. Do the statistics show how much someone beats the crap out of their vehicle or doesn't perform preventive maintenance? If everyone would change oil regularly plus all the other minor things to keep it running well, the statistics would say otherwise. Just because it is a 4 wheel drive doesn't mean you beat the shlt out of it off roading.

Message: I see, so making an educated decision is obvious until the facts don't support your opinion. Yes, there are many people that abuse their vehicle. These people also buy Fords, Chevys, Toyotas, and Nissan trucks.
Yet, somehow, these vehicles still seem have a better overall quality record than the Dakota. So, is this because Dodge lets more problem vehicles leave the factory, or is it because people who abuse or neglect their vehicles are more likely to buy a Dakota?

Message: I think we've all owned shatty vehicles. Personally, I've owned two Ford Rangers (1 brand spankin' new), and I would never buy one again. First one was wonderful (2.3L 1995 that I bought used and put 80k miles on it in 1 year), but the new one was a fully loaded 99 XLT that I had in the shop once every month for non-PM reasons. I had also said I would never own another Chrysler product after my 97 Jeep Gr. Cherokee 5.2L. Vehicle after that was a 04 Tacoma, but it never really "fit" me being I'm tall and the monthly payments were horrid. Now I'm in my 00 Dakota and couldn't be happier. It was immaculately taken care of by the previous owner and it shows. Yeah, I've had to fix a couple things on it that have popped up (stuff I consider regular wear and tear), but what vehicle doesn't have its problems? Although rare, Toyota recently had their massive recall on (750k)Tacomas for a problem with their front ends that affected the steering. That generation also had some of the cheapest interior I've ever seen... the anchors for the sun visors stripped out within 3 months. It also had the dreaded "dash knock" when the passenger side airbag brackets came loose. This, however, has yet to be recalled and their solution was putting in a "noise dampening kit". However, that had to of been one of the best trucks I've owned to date.
Yeah, Dodge is DC, and I did say I wouldn't own another DC, but I've always wanted a Dodge since I was in college. That, and I really missed the V8 and towing/hauling capability. ;) It has been an excellent choice for me and my budget.

Message: I love my 01 QC but I've had more problems with it than any Chevy I've had. Last Dec. my rear end went out so i replaced it with a r/t unit, 3 days after its back on the road the p/s pump starts to fail and it took a week to get one of those ($317) and i got that fixed 2 weeks ago, and i thought my IAC valve was going out so I replaced it ($100) but the truck still kills when its cold (I'm in S. La) it hasn't been colder than 50 degrees this winter. I never had a problem with the 4.7 engine I change the oil with kendall syn. every 2500 miles and i just changed the trans fluid at 100k, the truck has 102k miles. My ball joints are on their way ($200 for all 4). But I love my dakota, I really do. I also changed the blower motor resistor board that was only $15.

Message: Should have let you all know, I have a 03 Black Dakota extended cab sport, 4x4 but a V6 - Which does not handle at speed hill climbs, gearing or tranny ratio's. However it is definitely worse when using the cruise control (combination of things, I guess). I have put a air raid (air) intake on it, a chip, and blacked out the windows and lights. I did the intake and chip in part to help with the hill climbs but did not help. I love the truck, always liked the styling but don't think I would get another.
I did have a 94 Jeep Wrangler previous to this that I sank 2x in a River, sank uncountable times in mud, lifted 3 inches ran 31" tires, k&n, drove it everywhere sideways, even towed a ck2500 with 38" tires out of a mud hole and then to the tranny shop. All on a five speed manual and a 2.5 four cylinder. Best vehicle I ever owned drove it 160k sold it to a friend who still drives it. If I did that stuff with my Dakota it would die.
