Obviously I dont truly believe that I know more than the DC engineers, or any engineer for that matter. All I'm saying is that's there's a point where you can't cut any more corners, and they passed it. No, the front end doesn't weight 50 lbs, but it does weight about 100 lbs, cause it took two hands to carry and put into the bed of the truck without opening the tailgate. Don't believe me? Take it out for yourself. (just so everybody knows, 100 lbs is unacceptable too)
And another thing; I won't insult any of you until you insult me first, so in that case...
GraphiteDak: nice videos. Mud? I call it driving fast through puddles, and a half-donut? Alert the press! Water? About 6" deep with a hard bottom. If that's offroad driving, I must be a freakin maniac. And did you seriously video tape your gauge cluster while you floored it? Please.
Secondly, Ms Scooter: You're obviously just a total bi#ch. Where did all the "mommy" talk come from. Shut up. And do you think you're special for changing your own oil and brakes? Gold stars for you, go show YOUR mommy.
01DakSLT: No I'm not a chemist, yes I have worked on cars for years, yes I did know better, but I couldn't pass up the deal. You're a bozo.
Look, I don't want any more crap. I never said the truck didn't perform well off road. It cetainly impressed, even amazed me on several occasions. It just doesn't hold up.
I'll post what pictures I have of my front end, and one of my truck in some real mud, then everybody will know where I'm coming from. All I can say is that if you hear a clunk in the rear end when you turn, get new spider gears before it gets too bad. If you hear squeaks when you use 4x4, get a new front driveshaft, because it will cause severe destruction if you don't.

Hey smart as$, your first posting insulted all Dak owners who like their vehicle and know there will be one that comes along once in awhile that will have problems. You said we all need to get out while we can, insinuating that we are stupid if we keep our Daks.
You also told me. ***No I'm not a chemist, yes I have worked on cars for years, yes I did know better, but I couldn't pass up the deal. You're a bozo.****
That's really funny, you calling me a bozo. If you worked on cars for years and you knew Daks had quality problems (according to you), but you couldn't pass up the deal; YOU'RE THE BOZO. That would be like one of us saying, "Well we know Yugos just totally suck, but I got this thing for 100 bucks and have had to put over $3000 in it just to get it running and now I'm pissed."
You sound exactly like Ms Scooter portrayed you; a little whiny momma's boy who gets mad when things don't go his way.
I'll tell you what...you will not win on this site so I think I speak for the majority here when I say "GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!"
Plus, you contradict yourself. First you say you don't take your car in for every squeek or clunk because it's probably nothing, then you say ***All I can say is that if you hear a clunk in the rear end when you turn, get new spider gears before it gets too bad. If you hear squeaks when you use 4x4, get a new front driveshaft, because it will cause severe destruction if you don't.***
Seems like you may have learned your lesson from not taking care of your vehicle when you do hear a squeek or a clunk. Wait, I hear a clunk. What was that? Oh sorry, just Zach's brain hitting the floor. He forgot to change the spider webs before it got too bad.

Yo Zach, dude, lowering the truck is for the STREET ONLY, offroading means you need to either lift it or leave it alone.
If you still don't understand why YOU caused things to break then I just can't spell it out any simpler for you.
BTW, why on earth did you buy a regular cab if you wanted to put in subs? (you know, considering how smart you are and all that)

Message: When I say "break when dropped" I mean that when the front end exploded, I took what was left of the front end out of the truck and dropped it on the ground from about 4 feet and the housing broke even more. It doesn't mean I lowered my truck. Lowered trucks are for boy butt pounders.

Message: Damn. I wish Zach would have posted this earlier. I just hit 92K on my Dak and just changed the left front hub assy because the bearings went bad. Damn thing cost me $99 and $41 bucks to install it (too cold for me to do it). 92K and the bearing went bad? Don't you hate that. These things are pieces of crap. I bet at 150k I might need my O2 sensor replaced. I hate it when things that having moving parts break. It ain't supposed to be that way.
YES, I AM BEING SARCASTIC. LOVE MY DAK.

Message: Like I said Zach, if you could read, the real off roading was done OFF CAMERA. But demonstrates I liked to have fun with the Dak.
It had been in mud (and stuck) up past the doors. The water crossing I flew through on video was not 6", more like 2'.
The front axle DOES weight about 100Lbs. So do many manual tranny's. in which hold together JUST FINE unless you smash them against a rock.
I'm happy my front axle is aluminum and weighs 100 Lbs. If I continued to go offroading like before I'd cover my a$$ and install a skid plate for it. I've hit rocks big enough to rip my rear shock off as well as bend a few other things I had to fix. So it did indeed see some serious sh*t offroading. No video when I'm REALLY romping it. Them videos were mostly in the city! Not where we do our serious romps.
If you wanted to haul a$$ up a hill. You should have got the V8. No problem holding an incline. Mine has no problems doing the speed limit on inclines pulling 7,000 Lbs.

Message: Something doesn't sound correct here. I read zack broke the rear end and the front end at or prior to 12,000 miles > I'm Also reading what seems to be grose abuse. never seen a word about Dodge not paying to repair these pricy repairs even though it's pretty obvious the problems was zack's (expert) driving. Also seen he couldn't pass up a great deal buying this truck. With all this happening at or prior to 12,000 miles, I'd say zack bought the truck new. That being the case, the good deal he couldn't pass up could not be much better if better at all then what any savy buyer could do. Not likely but could have been bought used or as a demenstrater model and even then the truck would come with the warrenty, I'm sure zack has really good answers to these questions.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: My HEAD doesn't claim to pull a 4000 pound vehicle with 200 horsepower. A front end for a truck usually takes a forklift to transport, and a transmission definitey weighs way more than 100 pounds, it's more like 3-400 at least
Look, never mind. You guy just don't understand what really happened, and every time I try to explain myself you just use it against me.
I'm glad I don't have a Dakota anymore. If you like it, good for you. It's just obvious that you've never owned anything else before. I guess ignorance is bliss.
