Message: Their is a weire squieling noise coming from under the hood of my truck. The squil goes away as soon as I rev it even just a little. But comes back as soon as i let off of the gas. I checked the belt, and it seems to be in good shape and plenty tight. It is a 99cc 3.9 manual 4x2 Any Ideas? Thanks.

Message: So many things are popping in my head. It could be a bearing in the alternator, the water pump, or even the power steering. My bet is the power steering pump. Even though the fluid is full the pump could be wearing out. The pump would make a whirring type noise. Check the fluid level first. If at all possible disconnect the belt and see if it goes away.

Message: well I am pretty sure that the noise is not coming from the power steering pump, because it sounds like it is coming from the other side, so I am leaning towards the alternator. I listened to it with my stethoscope (medical not an enginge scope)and it has more of a grinding noise coming from the pulley that the belt is attached to. I still can't figure out why the noise goes away when I rev the engine
I have also recently noticed a large drop in mpg. While I was trying to find the SQUEALING (so sorry maybe) noise I noticed that the hose that runs from the valve cover to just above the throttle body was disconected from the throttle body. I can't remember what this is called right now. But could that be responsible for the drop in mpg. I reconnected it and this time put a spring clamp on it.
Thanks for all the help
