AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter Units - Retail and AMSOIL Preferred Customer Pricing

Engine wear is caused by dirt particles of about five (5) microns. The AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter removes particles less than one (1) micron or larger, virtually eliminating engine wear. AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filters filter all of the oil in a six quart system in about five minutes at an average engine speed equivalent to 45 mph.

I recommend the AMSOIL By-Pass Filter System for passenger vehicles, however, I recommend the "Single" By-Pass vs. the "Dual" By-Pass.

IMHO - a standard "Single" By-Pass with "return oil to the top side of the engine", is the smartest set-up and takes up less space. Plus, it is easy to remove and place it on your next vehicle.

*** Three (3) Reasons to choose AMSOIL By-Pass Installations:

1) - AMSOIL is EASY to set-up,

2) - AMSOIL uses spin on filters that are similar to regular spin-on Full Flow Filters -
...... but the By-Pass Filters have more high desinsty media, and

3) - the ease of changing AMSOIL filters.
__________________________________________________

*** Four Reasons That I Prefer the "Single" By-Pass.

1) I prefer the Single By-Pass because the Dual By-Pass has be shown to reduce oil pressure in some applications. The Dual By-Pass Units restrict main oil flow to get differential pressure for the bypass filter.

However, I DO HAVE many customers who run the Dual By-Pass on diesel engine pickup trucks with absolutely NO PROBLEMS. As long as the hoses are kept fairly short and you minimize viscous flow losses, there is very little drop in oil pressure vs. the stock filter setup.

Note: As long as you have an oil pressure guage and not an idiot light --- I have absolutely no problem recommending the Dual By-Pass.

2) The Single By-Pass takes up less space, and it is easier to find a spot to mount it since it is much smaller.

3) Single By-Pass is less expensive to "set up", and is less expensive to maintain.

4) Single By-Pass is Easier to remove and place on your next vehicle (size issue)

*** Reasons for using the AMSOIL Dual Remote By-Pass Oil Filter.

1) It allows the use of a LARGER full flow filter. -- which could be up to 3 times larger than the OEM. In total, this could equate to 3 quarts more oil capacity which offers greater protection for the engine.

2) The By-Pass filter is a spin on and is very easy to change without creating a mess.

3) The "setup" is a very clean installation.

4) The hoses for the "setup" are "industrial hydraulic hoses" with reusable connectors -- they don't leak -- and can be easily relocated to another vehicle if you sell your Dakota.

5) By-Pass Filtration Continuously Cleans The Oil.

6) Save $$$ with EXTENDED DRAINS - the "system" will pay for itself and save $$$ in the long run.

7) A regular Full Flow Filter will filter at 10 micron, and then NOT let the bypass valve open at some point -- releasing some of the dirt back into the oil galley. By-Pass filters -- once the dirt is in the filter it stays in the filter until you change it.

A FAQ: Why isn't By-Pass Filtration available as OEM (standard on a vehicle)?

I believe that the reason why By-Pass filtration is not a standard for vehicle manufacturers is because of the potential for profit loss. If vehicles last too long, auto manufacturers can't expect you to return and buy a new vehicle.

For the consumer, By-Pass filtration is one way to keep repair costs down AND allow the engine to last much longer (and perform close to "brand new"). IMHO -- Vehicle manufacturers are merely concerned with the vehicle lasting until it is out of warranty.

Think of this also. If every vehicle came factory installed By-Pass oil filtration, what would the oil companies do? Motor oil demand would drop by 75% ... and they certainly would see a drop in profits. That is why you see the "quickie lubes" (some owned by major oil companies) pushing the current 3,000 mile recommended oil change interval -- it puts lots of $$$ in their pockets.

For someone who hopes to never rebuild an engine, the By-Pass filtration is an excellent choice.

Reprinted from "Lubes 'n' Greases" Industry Trade Magazine

"Sooner or later, wear from abrasive particles and deposits from carbon and oxide insolubles will interfere with efficient combustion in an engine. Valve train wear (cams, valve guides, etc.) can impact timing and valve movement. Wear of rings, pistons and cylinder walls influences volumetric compression efficiency and combustion blow-by resulting in power loss. Particle-induced wear is greatest when the particle sizes are in the same range as the oil film thickness.

For diesel and gasoline engines, there is a surprising number of laboratory and field studies that report the need to control particles below 10 microns. One such study by General Motors concluded that, "controlling particles in the 3 micron to 10 micron range had the greatest impact on wear rates and that engine wear rates correlated directly to the dust concentration levels in the sump."

In Layman Terms: Better Filtration ( Particle Control ) Is Key To Controlling Wear !

*** DIRT is ENEMY #1. Control Dirt via the Air Filter and Oil Filter!

My interest in Dodge Dakota's and Dodge Durango's is that I have a cousin and a bro-in-law that own two (2) Dodge Dealerships, and I have owned Dodge Trucks and Vans in the past.

Also, my brother is a certified gasoline and diesel mechanic (and he owns a Diesel "Dodge" Ram) so he knows a lot about lubrication and filtration (and "Dodge" trucks) and he helps me with responses on this site.

I have spent many years building a solid AMSOIL reputation answering questions to the best of our ability. I am here to answer your questions regarding AMSOIL ... and any lubrication / filtration questions that you may have.

So let me get this strait. If you "pay to help support this site." That DOESN'T make you a salesman? Wow. I see now. It's all becomming clearer now.....

So if a person calls you on the phone to tell you about some great product they have to offer, they are NOT salesmen? Because they pay for the phone service that is used to call you with?

Steven,
Your products sound interesting, and I use Amsoil products(from my local retailer).I'm not complaining. I was just wondering if you owned a Dakota, so that you could share you personal experiences. I think that most everyone knows someone w/ one, However you don't own one. That's what I was asking. So You are a Sales Guy, and a Sponsor, and I that you for that.------Gears

Thanks Gears,

I don't currently own a Dodge.
I have a company provided SUV, the Lexus RX.
However, I have a fully loaded 2007 Jeep Wrangler on order
with the 3.7L that is the same engine as the 3.7L in the Dakota.

As far as a Single Bypass filter setup is concerned, how does it affect oil pressure in normal driving conditions? Is reducing the oil pressure necessarily a good thing? I've been curious about the bypass filters since I'd seen them on AMSOIL's website, but had no clue what they were for. I'd love to get one since I have to go off-road so much, but right now I'm having to do a bunch of maintenance work on my mom's car (Just ordered Universal ATF) and have to get new tires for her as well. So, my wallet is feeling lean at the moment. I'll consider adding it to my ever-increasing list of things I want for my truck. Thanks for the info, Steven.

I have one on my 00 durango. tap off the oil pressure sending unit(use a T) and returned thru the oil filler cap with a fitting on the driver side valve cover. this is on a 5.9
PITA mounting the fitler, had to place it on driver inner fender next to battery.

Oil pressure is not impacted since bypass is in parrallel to the oil system and the bypass filter itself is much more restrictive.

Have used these on prior cars, 2.2 and 2.5 Turbo engines in Daytonas and they work awesome. Have gone 20K miles drains with primarily highway commute no problem.
