Subject: High Idle after Mod? IP: Logged
Message: Well not really a MOD.
I changed the oil that was about 2000 miles past due.
A while ago I adjusted my TPS from .60v to .74, but after I drilled the bushings, I reailized that I didn't have the right size washers, so I used what i had. So this time I pulled the TPS and put in the correct washers, and adjusted it to .75v, measuring from the center wire to the ground terminal.
LAstly I used spray carb cleaner to clean the TB, while still on the motor. Not a total strip-down cleaning. I just sprayed it on the throttle plates, and wiped them off. As well as down the bores and wiped a bunch of crap out with a rag. I also sprayed some down in the idle circuit.
The truck runs 10 times better now and the throttle is awhole lot snappier, but it idles in neutral and park at about 1500 RPM, and when I put it in gear with my foot on the brake, it drops to 900RPM.
Before all this it idled at about 700RPM or so.
I don't have any check engine lights coming on, so what happened?

Message: No. I wasn't aware that I needed to after what I did. I only changed the TPS by .01V and I never reset it after the last time I did it either.

Message: try moving the TPS back and see if the idle is affected. while the engine is running adjust it so the idle is where you want it.

Message: Well I adjusted it back without a meter until the idle dropped and it dropped too low (about 500rpm) so I adjusted it again with the volt meter and I set it back to .743v. It now idles around 1000 RPM and my throttle response went to hell. I also figured out that my OD doesn't seem to be kicking in. But that's a story for another thread.
