Got up under my 01 4.7 4x4 and noticed the transfer case had dirty oil all over the outside of it, but not enough to drip, or leave a puddle behind, and my service 4wd light is not on, no weird noises, should I be concerned? Should I not use the 4wd until I get a better look see, or is this common with age?

Check the fluid in it. If it's low fill it up and clean the transfer case and check if you can see where it's leaking after driving it.

i know if you fill it up to full it leaks.
In the Haynes manual it says - 1)vent is clogged or jammed closed, clear or replace vent. or 2)output shaft seal damaged or installed wrong
