Subject: Lowering eventually...wheel/tire advice? IP: Logged

Looking into getting this lowering/handling kit in the near future if I can work up the bucks...
http://www.truckperformance.com/products/?productID=586300
However, I'm figuring I'm gonna need to looking into new tires...and quite possibly new wheels.
I am working on setting this truck up for racing, show, AND daily driving...including winter.
As of right now I have 16x8 American Racing wheels wrapped in 235/70/16 Bridgestone Duelers...I'd prefer to stick with the 16" wheels since I really don't feel like shelling out the cash for yet ANOTHER new set of wheels. However, I also want my wheels to be proportional to the truck...FYI, I'm not into the giant wheel look however. So the first person to suggest putting 20's on it should be shot. If it'll look fine with the current wheels and tires on it, that'd be awesome...though eventually I'll prolly switch to street tires rather than the all-terrain look. I don't so much need a brand suggestion on the wheels/tires...just sizing suggestions or better yet...someone to reply and say, "It'll look fine with what you got!"
Comments, anyone?
Oh yeah...for those who don't wanna read the info on the kit I'm gonna get.
2" front drop, 3" rear.

Message: My preference is a maximum of 18" wheels. I think anything over that is too big and doesn't look good in the wheel well. 15s are too small. You wheels look really good. My $.02

Message: Think the 16's will look alright or will I prolly have to upgrade? 15's definitely would be too small... would take some huge sidewalls on the tires to fill those wheel wells up enough. lol
I agree with ya though...I think 17's look great, 18's it all depends on the wheel/tire combination...anything over that starts to look "bling bling"...and I ain't into that.

Message: I'll be the first to say DON'T LOWER IT! At least not yet. Put your money into the engine and make it a SLEEPER first, if you plan on racing it.
Trust me, you don't want to be one of those guys that has to slow down for every bump in the road. And also, it's a truck and it's designed to tow/haul, forget about all that when you lower it.
If your not running 12s in the 1/4 it's not worth ruining your ride quality either. Unless you do an nice coil-over setup, it's going to ride like sh!t.
I'm not flaming you GB, I just want you to hear another opinion before you make the call.
I'd drop a Big Block in there first and then lower it once you can back it up. You don't want to get taken out by lifted 4X4 v8 Dak with you lowered v6 do you?
sorry about the rant, just my .02 :P

Message: lol, it's not gonna be die hard lowered or anything...and if I do it, i'm actually gonna install helper springs on the rear so I can still haul my four-wheeler around.
I'm actually rethinking that entire plan though, as of about 2 hours ago...the lowering kit is around $1,000. $1,000 + my truck (which is paid off) as a trade in would be a nice down payment on a V8 4x4 Dakota/Ram...then I could get my dream vehicle set up without spending money on my current truck when I'd rather have a lifted V8 4x4...yeah, I'm a city boy but definitely should have grown up in the country. lol

Message: Now you're on to something. Here's the best setup. Get yourself an nice 4X4 V8 Dak for your daily driver(don't buy the 05-06 for obvious reasons). Then save up $$$ and get a weekend streetrod. I have about $10,000 in my stang and it will eat my Dak for breakfast.
This way you have the versatility of a 4X4 truck everyday, and then when you feel like eating some rice, you can just jump in your streetrod and fry rice all day long.
