I just got a letter in the mail saying that Daimler Chrysler Canada has extended the warranty on my cat untill December 30, 06 or 10 years or 200,000km whichever is later. This is great but I already replaced the cat out of my pocket with a non chrysler part. Do you guys think that Dodge will cover that cost?

That pissed the f*ck out of me b/c my cat went back last november. I had it replaced with a magnaflow hi-flow one and now that one went bad. I could have saved so much $$$ if I knew they were gonna extend the warranty.

F*CK DODGE!

call the shop that did the work. They should still have a record of it. Otherwise you may not get your money back. And even then, it could probably only be for cost of factory one as that is what came with the truck and was warranted and not a performance after market accessory.

Also, did you investigate why the cat went bad? Those things just dont fail for no reason.

I replaced it because it was rattling. As per why it was rattling I didn't really care, I had heard of the problems with them before. I had it replaced with a cheaper one than a Dodge one. And I do have the receipt. My dad phoned (better chances with him than a 18 year old) and was told to send in a copy of the receipt as well as the warrenty letter.

So a mechanic didn't recommend replacing it ? If no , you might not get your cash back.

I took it to a shop and asked them and they confirmed that it was the cat rattling and replaced it. They also pointed out that my exhaust manifold was leaking (which I knew) because of the bolts breaking.

It just said "...the warranty period on your vehicle's catalytic converter has been extended...", It didn't say about all Dakotas. Phone and ask if your cat is covered.

Dan M, I think you are wrong. Mine was replaced by the dealer with 10,000 mi. If anything else was wrong they never mentioned it or wrote it on the repair ticket.

I received a letter from dodge about 3 weeks ago and it said the warranty was 8 years or 80,000 miles for the catalytic converter on my 99 dakota. At the time the catalytic converter was rattling so I had it replaced yesterday at no charge. I was told though that if they would have had to change the sensor that plugs into the cat. that I would have to pay for the sensor.

I wonder if there is a way to return the whole truck and say I was dissatisfied and get a full refund. That would be awesome.

Just to let you all know Good old Chrysler gave me the money for the cat.

One of the many reasons I, along with my parents, grandparents own a Dodge.
