Subject: slipping transmission! IP: Logged
Message: I was hoping someonecould help me, I recently bought a Dakota 4X4 with a V8 and the tranny is slipping, the truck has 250K and the transmission was flushed and fluid changed by the previous owner not long ago. The fluid is a brownish color, but it doesn't smell burned. You can start the truck and move it, but when it heats up, the tranny starts slipping pretty bad.
Is there a cheap fix, or a tranny rebuild...?
Thanks
Troy

Message: Sorry to say Troy, it sounds like it's
rebuild time. With that said, it's gonna be hard
to find ANYONE that knows ANYTHING about them.
Most will tell you it will be like new when they
are finished with it. 99% of the time, it won't
be.
I'd hunt one up and a salvage yard. If you find
one and it has not sat too long, just drain it,
replace filter and use the right ATF fluid.
Good luck.. You're gonna need it.
