Subject: truck tool boxes IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a 2002 QC 4x4. The truck has chrome rails on the bed which are growing on me. I am looking at getting a tool box to put in the bed as it does not have any storage space inside.
I want to keep the rails so I'm looking for a flush mount chest or a "pork chop" or "wheel well" box (I've seen them called both, depends on vendor) or a box that fits between bed and wheel well (with no drawers). I would prefer to have one large chest vs 2 of the others for cost and space for large items like jumper cables, tool kits, spare fluids, etc. I have seen some boxes that mount between the wheel well and tail gate but do not want one with drawers as it does not have enough space for larger items however they are in the $250 price range, the same cost for a chest.
I would prefer to have one made of metal and not that plastic stuff.
Any of you have any tool boxes like I am looking for? Where did you get it from? Was the price reasonable?
I've looked at sears , home depot, lowes, jc whitney, summit racing. I have done some quick google searchs but found little in the models I am looking for.

Message: There is a company out there called United Welding Services (UWS) that makes probably the best truck toolboxes ever. I've only been able to find them at truck accessory shops or performance shops. Big name places like lowes, etc carry cheapo toolboxes that aren't worth the money you pay for them. This is probably something similar to what you're looking for:

There are lots of other ones listed in there too including fender well versions.
Look in your phone book for any place that does Line-X or Rhino linings because they also tend to have truck accessories like tool boxes, etc.

Message: Oh man, I can't believe I forgot about UWS and their undeniable logo.
You found a winner. Local shop can get one this week and is cheaper than most I looked at in doing my searching.

Message: I also have a UWS toolbox. Very good brand name. I have the low profile tool box thats powder coated black (Black Label Series). Looks great on our midsized Dakotas. I would definately recommmend UWS.
