Subject: GOOD MPG- 01 Dak.....
IP: Logged

Message:
That's right!

I went from South side of Houston, to Dallas, around 250miles each way. Using the cruise control on 75mph, in a 70mph, on interstate 45. I went hours when there was no traffic jams, etc.

I got 21mpg! EACH way, Hwy only. With a 01, Quad Cab, 4.7, 5speed manual, Heavy truck- weighed it at 4500lbs. I know others get the same or better, I was doing a steady 75mph.

Heres what I got:
Body is: 01, Quad cab, SLT, trailer towing, tire and handling, Cab high leer cap,

drive train is: 01, 4.7, SuperChips tuner on 87 octane, (only added 4hp, and 4tq- max on this setting- I dynoed), Homebrew air intake w/ K & N insert, Ported my 68mm TB, HO intake, HO cams, 3923's (as if those make a diffenrence!),
No belt driven clutch of fan, (only the stock electric), 180 t-stat, NO third cat,
all into a 5spd manual, 3.55 LSD rear end, 2 WD (soon to go to 3.92's)

I also have the ORIGINAL ROTORS, ORIGINAL BALL JOINTS, and 91,000 miles! Original motor too!

So much bitch'n about these daks, just thought I'd share.

Drives so smooth, quiet, like a caddy on the Hwy!

Very nice! I hope you find the same if not a little better when you go 3:92, not to mention the performance.

I hear you about the brakes and rotors! Keep up the good results. With 61K on my QC they look like they will easily go past 100K with the way I brake.

A good friend of mine has a 2000 CC R/T. He drives hard and uses his brakes. He finaly changed his pads well past 90K miles. No rotor problems. Go figure?

Any idea on how long I can expect the clutch to last? I tow a little, don't do burnouts, and I know how to shift.

What's your left foot doing?

Modain,

The clutch? I tow some also, and as you, do know how to drive to shift.

People like Duner, who puts out mega torque and HP, (with his turbo), and many 1/4 runs, had to replace and upgrade his. - duh

I do burnouts every now and then, I especially enjoy posi 2nd gear stripes at 20mph!

I think your clutch will be fine for a while, mines doing well.

Not out of my mind, even divide to double check the computer at my fill ups.

That was 98% Hwy only. Cruise control at 75mph! I could have done a little better w/o it. No kidding, with a heavy ol Quad cab. The manual does help some, not as much loss on the engine as an auto.

auto's, LOL

Good job Todd.

The BEST I ever recorded was 19MPG one time (when I rarely set the cruise at a descent speed) and didn't haul a$$ up every mountain.
Mines a 4X4 auto. So I thought 19 was good!

I still have yet to drive (nomrally) on the highway to record my mpg with the 4.56's :)

Seem to be getting 12 to 14 in mixed city driving. Which was all I got before the gear swap. I need to fill up tonight, it is on E and I drove about 260 Miles on the tank mostly city. Seems to be about the same from when I had the 3.55's but a hell of a lot more fun!

I get 9 at best when towing my trailer. I have yet to hit 20 on a freeway-only trip. Sigh, maybe someday.

I filled up yesterday. Got just under 14 MPG on the last tank.

I guess that's not TOO bad for half of the miles being ball$ to the wall acceleration, broadies, chirping tires etc when driving my friend(s) around :)

Still wanting to go out of town for highway mileage.

I have an 03 4x4 cc 4.7 dak and have pulled off 20 mpg a couple of times. It was all highway miles between 70-75 mph. That was with 33 inch mud terrains and 4.10 gearing, i was impressed. Im sure I could consistently get over 20 mpg if I would keep it aound 70 mph on the highway. In town im around 13 and 14 mpg.

I've got a 2000 R/T that averages 14 in town, but got almost 19 (18.9) on a trip from South Bend, IN to Louisville, KY (about 250 miles). The trip is not all interstate and takes me thru a couple of small towns, something like 13 stop lights in Kokomo, and around Indy. I was really happy with that mileage, but To be honest, I usually get 16 - 17 at 65 - 75 mph.

Completely stock except for K&N drop in.

Wow Texas Todd, that is some impressive mileage! The best I ever got in my '01 QC 4x4 was 19 mpg on a highway trip. I did have to go over the Siskiyou Pass and had my AC on as it was summer time. Also I don' have cruise control. I don't doubt that I could get better mileage, but it is so fun to drive this truck with a heavy foot!

The only thing Todd didn't say was we've had 30 mph plus winds here in Texas the last few weeks. I bet he got lucky and had the south wind coming up from Houston and then a cold front came through and the wind was 30 mph plus out of the north on the return trip. I was on the unlucky end and had to drive south into the wind and back after a front blew through several times this winter. Mileage dropped to 15 mpg or less in my 03 quadcab 4.7.

03 QC,

As this is true, on the days and times that I went, there was little to no wind, either way.

I agree, that when I'm bucking a head wind, it takes a big bite out of the mileage. But If it were a big tail wind thing, I wouldn't have posted it.

With must over 90,000miles, I haven't taken an all hwy trip in years w/o pulling my sailboat, so I'd thought I would share.

Nope, no strong tailwinds either!

I drove to Prescott today. Finally a drive in the highway.

I fueled up and drove through the city and some stop and go happened a lot on the way up leaving Phoenix and when we were going through Prescott Valley or whatever it was.
Got like 14 MPG nothing to brag about.

On the way home I had a 4.7 Liter engine in the truck bed COMPLETE and fueled up just before leaving Prescott.

Trying to drive somewhat nice I had to pass a few people quickly and one time someone was on my a$$ as I slowly passed a car up a hill while using cruise control so I hit it and let off at 105 MPH.
Got back to north of Phoneix where traffic started to stop and go at the 5PM hour. Got off at the next exit and fueled up.

17.75 MPG

Tomorrow I am going to Payson. It will be Saturday so I hope the in town freeways is ok. I will get a more lengthy trip between fuel ups at a more steady pace.

See hwat happens tomorrow and I will report back.

BTW, it is hard to stay out of the throttle when you have 4.56 gears :P
