Any advice?
Thanks

Message: I can imagine a heating device in the tank but how would you keep the hoses and sprayer end from freezing? Maybe some low voltage heat tape?
Gotta love them on ramps!

Message: I've seen a kit for this. It's kind of like an instant hot water heater. It installs in the feed line and heats the fluid as it passes through. It doesn't freeze for the same reason your fluid doesn't freeze now. I may install it in my truck this year. Maybe.
I forget who makes the kit. But there's a dealer in Denver who I'm sure will FedEx it anywhere you want. S&S Automotive. www.coloradocobras.com

They do work well. It takes about 30 seconds or so to heat the water up. One downside with a Dakota (mine is an 03 QC) is that the wiper arms when in the down position are pretty much in the "line of fire" for the washer nozzles, so you don't necessarily get a unobstructed shot onto the windshield.

Message: The heater's purpose is not to avoid freezing(it only heats enough fluid for about a five second squirt, and not the whole tank)--it's to immediately melt the snow/ice on your window without scraping, and to make the washer fluid dissolve/break down the dirt quicker.

Were it only that easy. Ever drive a long trip through a heavy snow storm? Or drive on a cold day with slushy road ways? That's what this is supposed to handle. Don't know if it really works, though. I've never used one, and don't know anybody who has.
When I was in HS in upstate NY, these conditions were common. We bought some extra heater hose, and wrapped it around the washer bottle a couple of times. Then wrapped the whole thing in a wool blanket. That actually worked pretty good.
Hmmmm. Now I'm thinking again. A U shaped cooper or alum tube extending down into the washer bottle and connected to the heater hose line. Hmmmmmm. I wonder if that would get hot enough to crack a cold windshield.

Message: I've seen the Kit. It sells for about $150.
I have several ideas in my head.
I'll have to try the easy ones first.
My digital person thermometer only goes to about 108 degrees, then it says "H". I guess that means really Hot.
I found a meat thermometer that starts at 130, so it should be good for testing the water's temp.

Message: i've read in the 4x4 mags, a while a go, that spliced in some flexible copper tubing between the reservoir and the nozzle. the flex copper was "routed" and wrapped around headers/exhaust manifold. this was supposedly enough heat to melt snow/ice.

That's a great idea! Maybe wrap the washer hose around the upper radiator hose a few times, then cover with some insulating material. I need to try this.

Message: Dan,
I don't plan on spending any money.
I should have all I need in my misc. stuff/parts in the garage.
The trick is going to be to get the temperature just right. Too hot and the fluid will boil out or something will melt, or a windshield will crack.
