Subject: heater control... IP: Logged
Message: justa quickie..2001 cc 4x4 v8 of course 104,000 on her...heater vents and cluster is in default mode. can't switch from head to toe or defrost... always an 80/20 split 80%defrost, 20%face.. don't know if i need to replace the whole cluster or what is the solution.. any help appreciated.
while im on here... i think only 1 heated mirror works, pass side seems to take a lot longer then drivers. might it have to do with the heater controls since the mirror switch is on the cluster?

Message: Jimbo, you've got good taste, V8 is the only way to go.
So its stuck on defrost -- sounds like the "mode" switch. For the mirrors, the heated as I recall get air from the cabin, so when the switch gets replaced, you'll be OK.
Other experts -- CHIME IN.
And let me express my thanks for this website, it has the most helpful and truely friendly members of any mechanic type site I look at.

Message: Those mirrors are electrically heated. The heater is part of the mirror assembly

Message: Didn't know that about the mirrors. Didn't get that option on mime.
I have worked on several of the switches for upper, lower, defrost vent, etc and all I have seen have been VACUUM driven. I've mostly on Fords and MITS.
I would think our cars are vacuum (my 2001 has never had a problem, so I haven't done that to it.) So I would think the vent mode switch is a separate problem from the electric heated mirrors.

Message: For your heater options try looking for the vacunm line. It may have come off or have a leak. This will cause you to go into default on the blower. It is on the side of your heater box on the drivers side. Also check under the hood for the same line as it may have come off in there or touched something hot and has a leak.
