I have a '98 Dakota and can get, what I think is a factory hitch, from a 2000 Dakota. Can I assume that the frames are the same and the hitch will fit?

I would think so. can always call the stealership up and ask them for the part numbers for a 98 and a 2000. if they are the same then your good to go.

treed, you getten a darn good deal on that hitch?
Reason I ask is because Reese has them for
Dakotas and Wallie Word (Wal-Mart) sells or use
to sell them.
I put a Reese class 5 from Wal-Mart on my 98
when I had it... I picked up a light kit from my
local RV dealership. That was plug and play
install.
