How did you guys finally decide on your dak?

3 years ago I was driving a 3/4 ton chevy van when the motor blew up. I travel so I was out of town when it happened. I got a ride 300 miles back home and my work gave me 3 days look for and buy a vehicle. I was looking for a small to mid sized truck of good gas milage - I test drove a GMC somethin or another, ford ranger, cheap dodge ram w/ 225000 miles on it. nissan and then stumbled onto a 1993 dakota sitting at a car lot. I test drove it and could not believe the get up and go this truck had (bone stock). I was so impressed that I threw the good milage thing out the window - paid the man cash and back to work I went! Then of course you have to start modding!

Gotta love them on ramps!

When I was 12, my parents bought a 98 Durango. I remember my brother and myself killing some time when my parents were getting a deal for the truck. In the lot I had spotted a 99 Intense Blue Sport 4x4. I said to my brother, that will be my truck. When I turned 16, I got my brothers 91 Dakota, but it had a frame that was rusting through so my parents said start looking for a truck. I had found the exact truck I wanted for 5 years, the sig and phot will tell all :)

I got a 93' Jimmy from my step-father for free just after getting my liscense. Put some time and money into it to make it legal and drove it for almost a year.

Looked at newer S-10's after starting my current job and just didn't like the looks, even the ZR-2's. Did some research (here of course!!) on Dakotas and found exactly what I wanted. What I've always found humorous is that Dak's can be had at factory height and equipment with the same or larger tire than even the ZR-2 S-10's. Not to mention a strong V8 instead of a 'V-tec V6' :)

oddly enough, what got me interested was the commercials. When I was in highschool that is all I wanted. When I saved up some money I could not find one that I could afford. I wound up buying a ranger (not really a car kinda person). That thing was a money sucker. After 3 engines and 2 transmissions and after I got my first full time job in 1998 I went out looking for a new truck. I found my 1995 extended cab 4x4 with 3.9L auto with 39k miles at a small used car lot in town. 7+ years and 127k miles later I'm still using it as a daily driver. Now after 167k miles, still runs as good as when i bought it.

Got a 03 Dakota Stampede, Just aint nothin out there that looks as good. Then of course you have to put your own mark on it. Lowered 2 in front and 4 in the back, checkmate tonneau cover, chrome mags, all clear lenses, street scene grille and of course it's Flame Red.The 3.9 is just perfect for cruzin'.Gets plenty of looks and turns alot of heads.Got a nice little S-10,great for back and forth to work. None better. Keep the Dodge in the garage till the sun comes back.

i wanted a dakota after my sister's boyfriend gave me rides in his. he had a 4x4 5.2 and that thing had great power. man was he had on that truck and nothing ever broke.

sold the toyota and had $4500 to spend. i was looking for a truck to prerunner out so it looked like i was gonna get another toyota but newer. i looked at dakotas but thought they were to much. i had a chance to test drive 2 dakotas one being a 4cyl and the other a 3.9. both were gen2s and had 140000m. i finally test drove a v8 and from than on it was a v8 dakota. bought the one i have now for 6500 and have no regrets. tons of power and good reliability.

Dakota is the only midsize pickup. All the rest are either compacts, like ranger, or full-size. It's good power-size combination, it looks good and it stands out among the whimpy rangers and zillions of chevys.

I got my Dak because of the power to weight ratio. I always wanted a v8 in a smaller truck! Plus I could still get a manual tranny with the 4.7L v8. I still smile everytime I start it up!

3 Main reasons

1. Insurance Is cheap as hell..
2. Just as fast as the 89 Mustang 5.0 I drove for a week.
3. People always asume they can beat a truck in a race. Like the taurus I raced for 50 Bucks..

No dealer had a Dak the way i wanted, so i ordered one. Mine is slt plus w/ everything minus abs, automatic and power seats.
I love the size, power/weight ratio, and specially, the 5 sp manual w/3.92 lsd on 255/65/15, and yes, V8.

Saved my cash for a full year to buy a truck. I was basically looking for a truck under 10k that had under 100k miles and was a 4X4. I stumbled into my 1999 V8 4X4 Dak on autotrader. I was almost certain that it must have been sold already, but i got lucky. Test drove it, and bought it on the spot. Best thing I ever did.

I was looking for any truck with a V8 and an 8 foot bed, I was out at some used car lot looking at a POS 89 Ford f150, when I saw one of the best looking trucks ever. A 94 dakota SLT long bed V8 with everything (Huge grill guard w/ fog lights, those sweet chrome rims, 4WD, I think it might even have an LSD) The only thing it didn't was 4 wheel abs. I fell in love with the truck and had to have it. The funny thing is, it died on the test drive. I went home heartbroken, but one week later and a new speed sensor, I bought the truck. I hope I never have to buy a new truck, cause there will never be another truck like this one. V8 power, 8 foot bed, and great looks. Best of all, it's a dodge.

my 1990 dodge dynasty's tranny was on the fritz
so i had been looking for some time, and i wanted a truck, and only had like 4k to spend
all the dakotas i saw were either old, or too spendy
at the time (1999) they still wanted like 10k for a 92 v8 dakota, so i settled on a 1990 sport, rc/sb, it already had rollbars on it and honestly after i saw that i didnt want to NOT buy it, i oprigianly thought it had 222k, but i couldnt see the OD fully and it had no sticker in it yet, i went and looked again and the door was unlocked, looked at it and only 122k, SWEET!
they were asking 6k for it, and i looked at it and it needed
rear sliding window latch fixed, pass rocker was rusted out, bad muffler, no spare tire, dirty as all hell and talkd them down to $3300, blue book was like $4500, so i got my truck
after when it rolled 175k i was done with school, had a full time job and got me a 2001 Ram QC 4x4 laramie SLT with what i wanted most, tow package, thats why i didnt get another dakota, i wanted to haul more weight safley. so i got that and kept th4e dakota for winter duty, well that Feb after i got my Ram my little brother rolled his 1995 dakota, i bought it from the insurance company and ripped the 318 out of it and jammed it into my 1990 and now i have a v8 dakota :) The old v6 had NO power and was starting to leak oil pretty bad

so thats the story of my dakota, i have put alot of time and money into it, and more to come
the v8 swap ended up costing $1600 for everything, next summer im going to take my new lincoln wirefeed and some sheet metal and start in on the rust and then paint it, and also rebuild the rear axle. I need to fix the bleeder i snapped off it anyway and while im at rebuild it becuase of the horrible whine it has now. while im at that i might as well jam a locker in there

1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars

about 2 years ago i went to my cousins wedding. We took my sister's 2000 dakota QC. it had the 5.9l v8. We drove from rochester,ny to some small town just inside the PA. border down route 17. i was so impressed with the ride and power that i offered to buy it from her when the lease was up. she liked it so much she decided to keep it. so i went out and purchased a 2003 dak r/t in dec 03. they gave me $5000 off because the 04's were out so that put it @ $21k which after i drove it i had to have it. 6 months later bought my wife a 2002 durango w/360. kinda of bad on gas DAK-15mpg/Durango-13mpg but i live with that.

I got mine back in july. I was originally looking for an old plymouth duster to restore and put in either a small or big block V8, but rethought it and thought something else would be "more practical" for a daily driver. I found the Dakota could come w/ a 318 or 360, and was a "compact" truck, so I decided on it. I love the sound when I sound it up because it sounds like some of the old mopars I visited when looking for a duster. It has a flowmaster big block muffler that gives it that classic sound
Starsky: Funny you should mention your truck dying on the test drive. When the salesman went to start it up, it wouldn't. The battery was dead. when the dealer prepped it, they left the dome light on and drained the battery. The salesman used his personal vehicle (jeep) and jumpstarted it. Since the PCM got reset in the progress, it idled so low like it was about to stall. It was a lopey idle like it had a big cam, and it was awesome. I knew at that moment I had to have it.

About my 93 Dakota. I was driving a 92 thunderbird my wife had when we got married, a teen pulled out in front of me and well no more bird. Isurance money gave us just over 3000.00 for it in '02. What got my attention was the full benchseat in the extended cab unlike the s10s and rangers. Gotta have room for the family. I wanted a truck and was looking for something fullsize. We couldn't find one in our price range, I was about to give up when I saw an ad in the newspaper for a 93 Dakota, 2800.00. Ended up getting it for 2000.00. We went and looked at it, the paint was pretty much gone off the roof and surface rust had taken its place. It had 160,000 mile on it, now has 191,000. After we bought it the paint started flaking off everywhere. I put new shock all around. got a K&N for it. Put a Helix powertower on it. also has a small MSD box on it. I intend to do more upgrades later but she is in dire need of a paintjob. It is the blue color from 93. Although it looks like hell I still love the truck. Plan on having it until it can't go no more.
