Subject: Code P0700 - Transmission IP: Logged
Message: For all you experts out there ... what could be causing this? My truck is a 2002 QC AWD Automatic w/ the 4.7L (45RFE Transmission).
As I'm driving at highway speed, the transmission will drop into third gear (no torque converter lock-up when this happens) and the Check Engine light will come on. The truck will stay in third gear until I shut the truck off and restart it. It throws the P0700 code (Transmission Control Module) when this happens.
Every long once in a while, the transmission will get stuck in third gear as I am lightly accelerating from a stop, but more often than not, it happens at highway speeds.
I'm leaning towards replacing the Transmission Control Solenoid in the transmission.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Eric -- http://www.geocities.com/jes_96

Message: i am having a very similar problem, although i have a 2wd 3.9L. I keep getting a code about the 3rd/4th gear shift problem. I was told that it was the overdrive solenoid. Im getting my truck into a transmission shop on Monday, so I can let you know what the problem is.
My truck sometimes holds 30 seconds past the shift point on 3rd going into overdrive. I heard it might be the solenoid sticking. I don't have the code written down, but it seems like we have a similar problem.

Message: A PO700 will also store another code that can only be read by a code reader. Autozone will check it for free. I had a PO700 once, turned out to be a sensor. (not the same symptoms as yours). Code told me what it was.

Message: Eric and greg:
You have completely different transmissions and the cure for one is likely not the cure for the other...just so you know.
gregs is likely a 42re, but I'm not sure.

Message: I think I'm going to try AutoZone for the codes. My truck's been to Diehl Dodge in Butler, PA five times for this. It started under warranty, but I am now over the mileage, so they won't cover it. The dealership tells me that they can't reproduce what is occuring and that the codes don't tell them enough to "start throwing parts at the truck". I really do hate Dodge dealerships.

Message: Check your transmission fluid level. I have a 2001 QC with the 4.7L. I think that the code P0700 is transmission lower. I was driving down the road and the truck dropped out of overdrive and wouldn't shift right. It shifted slow from a stop. I ended up adding two quarts of transmission fluid. problem went away.

Message: I thought of that too. The possibility of the trans fluid being low. I've checked it and it's right on the money. The P0700 is simply the code for the TCM (Trans Control Module) - could mean anything.

Message: Problem fixed. Drained the tranny, changed the filters, re-filled ... put dielectric on all the electrical connections. Runs like a charm now. Funny how the dealership had this truck 5 times over 3 months and couldn't diagnose the problem (although they charged me $40 each time for diagnostics). Wonderful ... just friggin wonderful. I'm guessing they didn't even look at the transmission ... simply plugged it in, got the P0700 code with no others and said it couldn't be diagnosed. I really do hate dealerships.

Message: I have a 2000 dodge Dakota sport. My husband and I
were on vacation and the truck ran just fine on the
way home but when I went to leave again and going
down the highway, my truck all of a sudden shifted
down and my engine light came on so I took it to
Orielys and it popped up the code PO700 amoungst a
list of others. Now my truck with drop out of
reverse and it shifts really hard going from first
to second and won't shift to third of fourth. I
have only had this truck for a year. Could it be a
solenode or is it the whole transmission.

Message: My 4.7 liter 2000 4X4 had a similar problem shifting and I got the p0700 code a few months ago. I think this is a general code that indicated "EATX controller DTC present" according to the Dodge maintenance manual. I went to Advanced Auto parts and they read the code with an OBD 2 which read tranny output shaft sensor bad.
Bought the sensor from Dodge for 55.00 and installed, no more issues.
