Message: just curious if i can swap out my 44RE trans on my 97 cc 5.2 4x4 and if so, does it just bolt right up and will i need anything special to make this swap

Message: I did on mine... not a 4X4 .. I just needed a new dipstick tub... a torque converter for a 46 RE..

I would imagine that you would have to do something with the tailshaft. I dont think you could get the 46RE in 4x4, at least not in '97.
Its probably as simple as unbolting the end, and bolting the transfer case up.

Message: I asked someone this question before, but about the opposite thing. i thought my tranny was fukked, so i was gonna drop a junkyard 42rh in place of my 46RH, in my 93 4x4, to give me a little while to rebuild it. well from what i found out, its a direct swap out. just keep the torque converters with their own tranny.
